Opponent: {a-Spades}{10-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, and Smith recorded the knockout.

Over the course of the past two days, we've been updating you on the preliminary ring events that took place earlier this week here in Choctaw. In case you missed the ones we've covered thus far, here they are again for your reading pleasure:

Keeping with that theme, here's a look back at Ring Event #6 $365 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed, with help from WSOP Media Coordinator Lukas Willems' recap. Interestingly, that event was won by Kevin "1SickDisease" Eyster, who survived Day 1a of the Main Event.

Kevin Eyster is tied for the lead in the Choctaw Resort Casino Championship following a victory in Event 6, a $365 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed tournament, Wednesday night. Eyster, who earned 10 points toward the cumulative race by finishing 40th in Event 2 three days ago, added 50 more points to his series total after his winning performance.

In addition to points, Eyster also won $27,573 and his first WSOP Circuit gold ring, a memento he said weighed heavier on his mind than the points lead. “No,” Eyster replied when asked if the Casino Championship served as motivation. “This first ring was pretty big motivation. I guess now [the Casino Championship] will turn into motivation for me, but before it was one step at a time. See the money first, then the ring, then the Casino Championship.”

Eyster’s shot at topping the points leaderboard was the predominant headline at the final table, but all eyes were on Omaha-based pro Brett Schwertley when Day 2 began three hours prior. Schwertley was recording his 29th career cash, moving him into fourth place all time, and had a chance at winning his fourth WSOP Circuit championship. Unfortunately, Schwertley’s headline fizzled, as he became Day 2’s first elimination. He finished 11th and earned $1,751. While the finish moved him up the all-time cash list, he came up short of an elusive fourth ring.

Eyster proved too much to handle, and, like Schwertley, the final table’s chip leader Isaac Do couldn’t best the 23-year-old pro from Lafayette, La. The pair dueled for what seemed like hours before Eyster’s trip nines bested Do’s flush and straight draws to bring the tournament to a close.

Eyster, who dropped out of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to pursue poker full time, says his career has been filled with a lot of ups and downs. “Right now it’s up,” he said with a smile.Event 6 was the sixth of 12 gold ring events on the WSOP Circuit schedule at Choctaw Resort. The $365 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed tournament attracted 383 entries. The total prize pool came to $114,900 and the top 42 players were paid.

Another One-Outer

Yesterday, we told you of a one-outer between Jim Parker and Justin "Choctaw" Kruger. Both players flopped sets, Parker a set of tens and Kruger a set of aces, and Parker spiked a ten on the river to make quads and double.

Well, moments ago on Table 24, there was another epic one-outer.

According to the players at the table, there was an open to 1,200, a three-bet to 10,000, and an all in for 25,000. The three-bettor called.

Tina Fouse had her opponent covered and was holding {j-}{j-}, but her opponent had her dominated with {q-}{q-}. There was a {j-} in the window of the flop, but a {q-} followed it. Incredibly, the case-jack spiked on the turn, giving Fouse quads, and the river was a brick.

Fouse sits with around 55,000 chips, and is our second player in as many days to hit a one-outer in the Main Event.

Here Comes Philachack

Andy Philachack is always entertaining, but when he has a big stack it's like watching a fireworks show. There are plenty of big pots and colorful chips flying. Not only does Philachack have a big stack, he appears to be the big stack with 150,000!

We recently caught Philachack in a hand with 20,000 already in the pot and a board reading {4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}. An unknown player in middle position, who also had a decent stack, led out for 9,700 and Philachack wasted little time in spiking in a big stack of grey T5,000 chips. The raise was enough to commit the middle-position player, who had about 35,000 behind, if he chose to call.

About a 90 seconds ticked off from the clock before the middle-position player folded. Philachack then flashed the {2-Clubs} before tossing his cards to the dealer. "What did he show?" asked a player at the other end of the table who didn't catch a glimpse of the cards.

Philachack then went to turn over the deuce and revealed the {A-Hearts}. He laughed a little bit while his opponent seemed less than entertained.

Monkey Business

We haven't been able to catch Will "Monkey" Souther in a hand, but according to his social media, it's not been a good last hour. Here's what he had to say:

"Just an atrocious last hour. Reminiscent of yesterday after my table move. Call min raise with 3c5c on old guy. Flop 3 with 2 clubs. Check raise. Calls. Turn two pair still, bet 7500. He flats. River pairs 8! No club. Counterfiets me. He bets 9k. Son of a......aaaarrrrggghhhhh!!!!! FYI. Was in BB. Stack down to 17k. Would have been over 60k if geezer doesn't escape."

"What Am I Supposed to Do?"

Justin "Choctaw" Kruger needs to channel some run-good from his card protector
Justin "Choctaw" Kruger needs to channel some run-good from his card protector

A player in the hijack seat opened to 1,100, two players called on his direct left, and Justin "Choctaw" Kruger three-bet to 3,500 from the big blind. All three players called.

"What am I supposed to do?" Kruger lamented.

The dealer fanned {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, and all four players checked. The turn was the {2-Hearts}, Kruger checked again, and the original raiser fired 13,000. Every other player folded.

After the hand, Kruger told us that he had two queens.

It's Always Green-er When You Flop Sets

"Clock on 33," a dealer yelled. We made out way over to discover 12,500 in the pot and a board reading {3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. Kyle Green had checked and opened the door for his opponent in middle position to bet 12,000. Not to be deterred, Green check-raised all in and put the pressure on his unknown opponent, who had 33,000 behind.

The floorman told the player he had a minute to act on his hand, and after 51 seconds had passed he slid in his chips with {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. Much to his dismay, Green rolled over {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} for a set. Neither the {2-Clubs} turn nor {4-Clubs} river changed a thing and Green was pushed the large pot while simultaneously sending his dejected opponent to the rail.
