Day 3 Started

A Champion Will Be Crowned Today!

Welcome back for the final day of the Harrah’s Rincon Main Event! We had a short day yesterday, as 43 players became our final nine in just eight hours. Leading the way today is Edmund Liu, who bagged up 1.56 million. Liu scored the biggest cash of his career in August when he won the $125 re-entry at the Legends of Poker at the Bicycle Casino for $56,320, and he will be looking to top that today!

Not far behind is a name that everyone knows: Soi Nguyen. Nguyen is of course famous for finishing 9th at the 2010 Main event for $811,823, and he proved that he wasn't a fluke when he finished runner up to James Dempsey at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in December of last year. He comes into today with 1.338 million.

These two are at the top of the list, but they will also have to worry about LA pro Lynda Tran, as well as David Randall, who has a shot at securing the most points of the series here at Rincon. That would earn him an automatic bid into the WSOP National Championship next summer. Jonathan Chehanske also has a shot at it, so these two will be keeping a close eye on each other!

Play is scheduled to get underway at noon local time, and we will be play until we have a winner! Stay tuned here to Pokernews, as we get ready to bring you all of the action!

The players have been introduced, and the cards are in the air! The clock stopped at 39 minutes yesterday, so that is where we are starting.

Soi Squeezes

On the second hand of the final table, action folded around to Jonathan Chehanske in the hijack, and he raised to 35,000. David Randall called from the button, and it was on Soi Nguyen in the small blind. He elected to raise it up to 92,000, and both Chehanske and Randall quickly got out of the way.

After that hand, Nguyen is up to 1.4 million.

Chehanske Takes From The Leader

We have just had our first showdown of the final table, and it went to Jonathan Chehanske. He raised it up to 28,000 in middle position, and Edmund Liu was the lone caller in the big blind.

The flop came {q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}, and Liu checked to Chehanske, who fired out 30,000. Liu made the call, and the turn brought the{a-Spades}. This slowed both players down as they checked, and the river was the {5-Hearts}. Liu checked, and Chehanske figured it was safe to fire out a value bet of 45,000. Liu made the call, and Chehanske rolled over {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for a pair of kings.

It was good enough to beat Liu, and Chehanske took the pot to get back up over 400,000.

Jivkov Risks It All

Ted Jivkov came into today as the short stack, and he folded all his hands in the first orbit. However, he took a stand on the last hand, moving all in for 157,000. No one had a hand to battle him with, and he took down the crucial blinds and antes.

Nguyen Takes A Chunk From Randall

Jonathan Chehanske raised it up to 28,000, and David Randall three bet it to 82,000. Soi Nguyen was on the button, and he made the call. Chehanske got out of the way, and they went heads up to a flop of {7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

Randall didn't slow down, firing out 140,000, but Nguyen wasn't going anywhere. He made the call, and the turn brought the {2-Spades}. Randall tanked for about 30 seconds before checking, and it only took Nguyen about 15 seconds to put out a bet of 230,000.

This bet represented half of Randall's stack, and it only took him a few moments to release his hand. With that hand, Nguyen is our new chip leader with 1.6 million, while Randall is down to 434,000.
