Blenkarn Doubles With Aces Versus Kings

With over 6,000 already in the pot, Jeff Blenkarn and an opponent saw a flop of {7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Blenkarn wasted no time betting 3,700 and his opponent slid out a call.

Fourth street brought the {10-Spades} and Blenkarn flung out a bet of 5,700 with little hesitation. His opponent pushed out a raise to 13,000 and Blenkarn called off his remaining 12,150 for his tournament life.

Opponent: {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The board finished with the {J-Diamonds} and Blenkarn was able to score a double up to about 45,000 in chips.

MacPhee On The Comeback

We caught up to see the aftermath of a hand that saw Kevin MacPhee double his stack.

MacPhee was kind enough to recap the hand for us afterwards. After a series of limps before the flop he checked his option from the big blind, prompting the dealer to spread out a flop of {4-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}. A player bet 800 and received one call. MacPhee then jammed the rest of his stack all in and was called by the original bettor.

MacPhee: {7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

The turn was the {9-Clubs} and the river the {J-Hearts}, ensuring MacPhee a double up with his flopped two pair. He's currently sitting at about 21,000 after a harrowing first few levels.

Makhija Bleeding

On a flop of {7-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, Amit Makhija led out for 900. His lone opponent raised to 2,000 from the button and Makhija called.

The {10-Spades} struck the turn and paired the board, prompting Makhija to check. His opponent shot out 3,000 and Makhija released his hand to the muck, allowing the pot to be pushed the way of his opponent.

Vaillancourt Fires Thrice

On a flop of {Q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, a player checked to Noah Vaillancourt and he fired out 800. Vaillancourt's sole opponent called the bet and the two saw the {4-Spades} hit the turn.

It was checked for a second time and Vaillancourt bet 1,800. Another call prompted the {8-Spades} to hit the river and Vaillancourt's opponent tapped the table for a third time.

"Thirty-eight," said Vaillancourt as he tossed out a single purple t5,000 chip.

His opponent folded to the bet of 3,800 and Vaillancourt dragged in the pot.

Lee Causes Lee to Leave

There was a commotion at one of the outer tables and we caught up to see Doug Lee with all of his chips in the middle of the table. The board read {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and Lee's opponent, Tyler Lee, fired out a bet. Doug Lee moved all in for his last 6,950 over the top and Tyler Lee called.

Doug Lee: {J-Spades}{8-Spades}
Tyler Lee: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

"I knew he had that hand," said Doug Lee as he stood up from the table, learning that he was ahead with his pair of eights.

The {3-Diamonds} hit fourth street, keeping Doug Lee out in front. The river, however, spelled disaster. The {K-Diamonds} rolled off to complete the board and paired Tyler Lee's king, spelling elimination for the 2005 WSOP Circuit Championship event winner.

"Ugh," lamented Doug Lee. "I knew he had ace-king." Doug Lee walked away from the table while Tyler Lee scooped up a huge pot that boosts his stack to about 66,000.

Razavi Reduces The Field by One

Ashkan Razavi won his first World Series of Poker bracelet earlier this year when he bested a massive field and defeated circuit regular Amanda Musumeci heads up in Event 9: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry. Razavi is in the field today and is thriving.

We found action fold around to the cutoff and he raised to 650. The button and small blind tagged along and Razavi joined the party from the big blind.

All four players looked down to see a flop of {Ts]{k-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. The small blind tapped the table and Razavi led out for 1,400. The original raiser in the cutoff folded and player on the button called. The small blind got out of the way and the two were heads up to the turn.

Fourth street brought the {J-Diamonds} and Razavi did not let up. He moved 2,825 into the middle and his opponent on the button moved all in for roughly 8,000 total. Razavi wasted no time calling and showed {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} for two pair.

Razavi's opponent shook his head and showed {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for a hand that was winning on the flop but was currently behind. The {2-Diamonds} hit the river and allowed Razavi to scoop up the pot and increase his stack to about 48,000.

Cheung Crippled

We walked by Robert Cheung's table to find that his stack was down to merely 3,000. He informed us that he lost a very big flip for a majority of his stack. After a series of hands with the same opponent, he finally got his opponent all in before the flop while holding {A-}{K-}. Cheung was racing with his opponent's {Q-}{Q-} and unfortunately for Cheung, he failed to improve his hand.

Cheung will now need some good fortune in order to stay alive here on Day 1a.
