Henderson's 11: Hugh Leads Entering the Third and Final Day

Level 27 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Hugh Henderson - Chip leader
Hugh Henderson - Chip leader

The 2012-13 World Series of Poker Circuit continued on Sunday with Day 2 of the Harrah’s Cherokee Main Event. Of the 201 players that started the day only 11 remain, and the chip leader is Hugh Henderson with 4.235 million. Henderson was the only player to bag over 2.4 million chips, and will enter the third and final day with nearly a quarter of the chips in play.

Day 2 began with Rick Hensley as the chip leader. Hensley, who started the day with a little over 400,000 in chips, then knocked out an opponent and peaked at 460,000. It was all down hill from there for the Morganton, North Carolina native. He lost a 345,000-chip pot against Larry Gurney when he moved all in on the flop with a gut-shot straight draw. Gurney called with aces, and held.

Hensley then proceeded to lose another big pot with ace-jack against Fernando Tobal’s aces, and then was eliminated by Keith Fox. Hensley moved all in with second pair on a queen-high board, and Fox called with ace-queen. The turn and river both bricked, and Hensley was eliminated before the first break of the day.

Other players who suffered quick eliminations were Chris Bell, Tripp Kirk, and Ken “Teach” Aldridge. Aldridge lost the majority of his chips with two pair against an opponent’s flush draw. The player made his flush, and Aldridge busted shortly thereafter.

The bubble burst in Level 19 when Sean Walton four-bet shoved with two kings. Carter Myers looked him up with ace-king, and the {a-Spades} poked its way through the window of the flop. The turn was a brick, the river was a third ace, and Walton was eliminated just shy of the money.

Once the bubble burst, there was a flurry of eliminations. Among the players who cashed but were unable to survive the day were Claudia Crawford, James Menard, five-time ring winner Kyle Cartwright, Jerry Barlow, Jeff Williams, and Benjamin Armstrong. Williams lost a race with ace-jack against Myers’ pocket nines.

When the field was reduced to just two tables, the pots began to grow exponentially. John Bowman won one massive pot off of Jonathan Moseley, when he flatted a raise preflop with pocket queens. The flop brought another queen and two eights, giving Bowman a full house, and he just called Moseley’s bets on the flop and turn. On the river, Moseley fired a third bullet and Bowman put in a large raise. Moseley made the call, then mucked when he saw Bowman’s monster.

Moseley got those chips back and more a few hands later when he rivered a full house against Jeremiah Fitzpatrick and won a 2.8 million-chip pot. Fitzpatrick called a one million-chip shove on the river with trip deuces, which crippled him down to 430,000 chips.

All eyes will be on Henderson on Monday however, as he leads the way with over four million chips. In the second-to-last elimination of the evening, he rivered the nut straight against Milan Dragic. Henderson open-shoved for a pot-sized bet, and Dragic called with a set of eights. They were no good however, and he was off to the cage to collect $15,601 for his 13th-place finish.

Fitzpatrick followed him to the rail in 12th, losing a blind-for-blind hand against his nemesis, Moseley. Fitzpatrick jammed from the small blind with a weak ace, Moseley called with a pair of sevens, and the pair held.

Play will resume at noon local time on Monday, with the two tables looking like this:

Milan Dragic Eliminated in 13th Place ($15,601)

Level 27 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Milan Dragic - 13th Place
Milan Dragic - 13th Place

Hugh Henderson opened to 60,000 from under the gun, Milan Dragic called on the button, and both blinds released.

The dealer fanned {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{j-Clubs}, and Henderson led out for 70,000.

"How much?" Dragic asked, the second the chips hit the felt.

The dealer informed him of the amount, and he instantly called.

The turn was the {8-Hearts}, and Henderson fired another 90,000. Dragic immediately raised to 175,000, and then the dealer told him that he must make it 180,000. Dragic obliged, and Henderson called.

The {q-Hearts} completed the board, and Henderson quickly uttered, "all in."

Dragic snap-called the 650,000-chip bet, and Henderson flipped over {k-Spades}{10-Spades} for the stone-cold nuts. Dragic flashed {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a turned set of eights, and hit the rail.

Henderson is now our overwhelming chip leader with over four million chips.

Gregory Motes Eliminated in 14th Place ($15,601)

Level 27 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Gregory Motes - 14th Place
Gregory Motes - 14th Place

Hugh Henderson raised to 55,000 from the cutoff, and when it folded back to Gregory Motes in the big blind he reraised all in for 398,000 total.

Henderson thought about 20 seconds, then finally spoke up. "What the hell," he said. "I'll give you some action... I'll call."

Henderson turned over {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, and he enjoyed the preflop edge versus Motes's {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Henderson had the advantage five cards later as well, as the board came {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} to send Motes to the rail in 14th.

With that pot Henderson pushes up over 3 million chips and back ahead of Jonathan Moseley and into first position.

Moseley Wins Monstrous 2.8 Million-Chip Pot

Level 27 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Jonathan Moseley
Jonathan Moseley

On the last hand of Level 26, Jonathan Moseley opened to 45,000 from under the gun. James Kinney called in middle position, and Jeremiah Fitzpatrick defended his big blind. The flop came {q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{a-Clubs}, and Fitzpatrick checked. Moseley fired a continuation bet of 55,000, Kinney folded, and Fitzpatrick called.

The turn was a repeat deuce - the {2-Diamonds} - and Fitzpatrick knuckled again. Moseley tossed out 80,000, and Fitzpatrick announced, "One-ninety."

Moseley tank-called.

The {6-Diamonds} completed the board, and Fitzpatrick cooly flicked forward four blue T100,000 chips. Moseley shot him a disconcerting look, then said, "all in."

Fitzpatrick's eyes widened. He eyed his neighbor's stack, looked down at his own, then sighed.

"I call," he said.

Moseley ripped over {6-Hearts}{6-Spades} for a rivered full house, and Fitzpatrick slammed one of the chips he was rifling with his right hand onto the felt. He was then forced to show {5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for trip deuces.

The all-in bet was for 1.089 million, and Moseley doubled to 2.8 million chips.

Moseley plummeted down to 430,000.

Larry Gurney Eliminated in 15th Place ($15,601)

Level 26 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Larry Gurney - 15th Place
Larry Gurney - 15th Place

The table having folded to him in the small blind, Larry Gurney limped in, then Jeremiah Fitzpatrick raised to 65,000 from the big blind and Gurney called.

The flop came monotone — {2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} — and Gurney didn't wait too long before pushing all in for his last 208,000. Fitzpatrick didn't take too much time, either, to make the call.

Fitzpatrick tabled {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}, and when Gurney saw his opponent's hand, he had two short words to say.

"Uh oh."

Gurney showed his {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, and indeed his prospects were mighty dim. In fact, according to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Gurney's chances of drawing out were but 0.30%, with a little over a 1% chance of chopping.

The {K-Spades} then fell on the turn, reducing Gurney's chances to zero and making the river {4-Clubs} an item of trivia. Fourteen players now remain.

Super Slow Play

Level 26 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
John Bowman
John Bowman

Jonathan Moseley raised to 45,000 from early position, John Bowman called on the button, and Raymond Weaver defended from the big blind. The flop fell {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, Weaver checked, and Moseley continued for 53,000. Only Bowman called.

The turn was the {j-Spades}, Moseley tossed out another 85,000, and Bowman made the call.

The {4-Spades} completed the board, and Moseley fired a third bullet worth 135,000.

"How much?" Bowman asked the dealer, who spread out the bet.

Bowman tanked for 20 seconds or so, then cooly tossed out for blue T100,000 chips, raising to 400,000. Moseley unhappily cut out a stack of olive T25,000 chips, and made the call.

Bowman ripped over {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} for a flopped full house, and Moseley send his cards spiraling into the muck.

James Steen - 16th Place

Milan Dragic opened for 50,000 from middle position and it folded to Hugh Henderson who called the raise from the cutoff seat. The action moved over to James Steen in the small blind who reraised all in for 277,000 total.

Dragic let his hand go, and after thinking a beat Henderson said "Okay... I'll call."

Steen had {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} while Henderson held {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}. The flop came {K-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Clubs}, then the {J-Diamonds} turn improved Steen's hand to a straight. But alas for Steen, the river brought the {10-Diamonds} to give Henderson a full house and knock Steen out in 16th.

Jonathan Moseley opened to 35,000 in middle position, Scott Taylor three-bet jammed for 209,000 from the blinds, and the action was back on Moseley, who tank-called.

Moseley: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}
Naylor: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The dealer fanned {10-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}, which gave Moseley a leading pair of tens, and the {2-Spades} on the turn took away two of Naylor's outs. The river was an ace, but the {a-Spades} gave Moseley a spade flush, and eliminated Naylor in 17th place.

Carter Myers opened in early position, Daniel Weinman three-bet near the button, and the action folded back to Myers, who moved all in. Weinman called, and the cards were tabled.

Myers: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Weinman: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Weinman was well ahead, and extended his lead when the flop fell {2-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. It was all over when the {2-Spades} turned, and the {4-Diamonds} completed the board.

Myers was eliminated in 18th place, earning $12,853, while Weinman is up to 1.7 million chips.
