Harrah's New Orleans

Welcome to Day 2 of the 2012-13 World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans Main Event. Two days ago 316 players took their shot at the last $1,675 Main Event of the season, but only 51 would survive. Yesterday another 446 players took their shot in the second starting flight, bringing the total number of entries to 762—a nearly ten percent increase over last year’s 694. Of those just 74 advanced, meaning today will start with 125 players.

That mean we’ll need to lose 44 players before the money is reach as the $1,143,000 prize pool will be paid to the top 81 players with $228,600 and a seat into the National Championship going to the eventual winner. The man best positioned to capture the top prize is Day 1b chip leader Rahul Deevara, who leads the pack with 466,000. Another player to keep an eye on is Day 1a chip leader Ben Mintz, a pro from New Orleans who sits with 313,000.

Of course there are plenty of other stories to follow here at Harrah’s New Orleans. For instance, the Massey Brothers, Aaron and Ralph, both made it through to Day 2, and we all know what can happen when to brothers make it deep in a WSOP Circuit Main Event (see the Bros. Hinkle at WSOP Circuit Council Bluffs); in addition, WSOP bracelet winners Robert Cheung and Nick Jivkov are still in contention, as are traveling roommates Ben Reason and Cord Garcia. Throw in big stacks Daniel Weinman (373,000), Claudia Crawford (313,000) and Daniel Lowery (308,500); October Niner Rob Salaburu; National Championship qualifiers Joseph McKeehen (Caesars Atlantic City Main Event Champion), Jonathan Tamayo (Palm Beach Kennel Club Main Event Champion), Kevin Saul (Foxwoods Main Event Champion) and Tripp Kirk (at-large qualifier), and you can just tell it’s going to be an interesting day.

Action is set to kick off at 1200 CST, which is about 90 minutes from now. The plan is to play down to the final table or as close as we can get to it in ten levels, which are now one hour long. Join us then as we bring you all the action and eliminations from the 2012-2013 Harrah’s New Orleans Main Event!

Shuffle Up and Deal!

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Tournament official Jordan Cutter has just welcomed the players and told the dealers to get the cards in the air. Action is now underway on Day 2 of the WSOP Circuit Harrah's New Orleans $1,675 Main Event, which is currently being played on the stage and lower level of the theater.

A Few Early Eliminations

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Robert Harwell returned today as the short stack with 2,000. Not surprisingly, he was the eliminated on the first hand of play and became the day's first casualty.

Also being eliminated on the first hand at his table was Paul Hutson, who was followed out the door by Don Mathews a short time later.

Kuether Busts, Butler Triples

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Heatham Foty opened for a raise to 6,000, a short-stacked Joe Kuether three-bet jammed on the button, and Ashly Butler called all in from the small blid. Foty, thinking he was just going to be heads up, called.

Foty: {a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}
Kuether: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Butler: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}

The board rolled out {j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, tripling Butler and sending Kuether to the rail.

Saul Bust While Alesna More Than Doubles

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

There will be no second World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event title for Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul in the 2012-2013 season as he had been eliminated.

The Foxwoods Main Event champ called off his last 12,500 after Joseph Alesna had moved all in from early position for 23,000. Michael Benton then called from the button to put both players at risk.

Saul: {A-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Alesna: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}
Benton: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

Everyone held an ace, which meant Alesna's king kicker had him out in front. Saul had the worst of it and was out of his seat before he saw the {9-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Spades} flop paired his nine to give him the lead. The {10-Hearts} turn brought him one step closer to a triple, but the {K-Diamonds} spiked on the river to give Alesna the pot.

Saul, clearly disappointed, threw his backpack off the stage and quickly disappeared to retrieve it.

There's No Rhyme or Reason

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Benjamin Reason on Day 1.
Benjamin Reason on Day 1.

Jaspreet Panchhi opened for 6,000 only to be met by a three-bet to 16,500 by WSOP Circuit ring winner and Foxwoods fifth-place finisher Ben Reason, who was recently featured in an edition of PokerNews' popular Circuit Grinder series. Panchhi responded by moving all in for 110,000 and Reason snap-called.

Panchhi: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Reason: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

It was a flip, but not after the flop came down {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{a-Clubs}. Panchhi flopped trips to take a commanding lead while Reason was suddenly looking for an eight to reclaim the lead. The {10-Hearts} turn wasn't what he was looking for and neither was the {2-Spades}.

"Nice hand," was all Reason offered as he sent more than half his stack to Panchhi.
