Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s Cherokee $1,700 Main Event wrapped up Sunday night and what a wild day of action it was as a starting field of 162 was trimmed all the way down to the final 15 players.

Leading the way is Hannah Guthrie who bagged 4,885,000, which is a third more than her next closest competitor. In the penultimate level of the day, Guthrie had a run of hands that propelled her to the chip lead including leaving Dan Lowery on fumes when she faded a flush draw. Then shortly after she eliminated David Jackson when she turned a straight to best his top pair to give her over four million in chips, a height that she would not come down from for the rest of the day.

Second in chips to end the day was Ken Aldridge, who finished with 3,327,000. He collected the majority of his chips very late in the day, in the last half of the last level to surge himself into second place.

Ryan Jones (2,800,000), Kyle Cartwright (2,535,000), and Randall Rothwell (2,470,000) round out the top five stacks.

Fikret Kovac finished sixth in chips with 2,350,000 after making a lot of noise once play got down to three tables. He took the reigns in his hands and forced his opponents into several tough decisions, many of which went in his favor as he surged to a chip lead at one point just before the ascension of Guthrie at the same action-packed table.

Well known players Marshall White (1,515,000), Spencer Champlin (1,345,000) and defending champ Jake Bazeley (1,185,000) are also among the 15 remaining.

Action of the Day

The day began with 162 players and the 150 money bubble threshold was breached shortly with no need for any hand-for-hand play. Eliminations occurred at a steady pace throughout the day including Maurice Hawkins. who went down in 44th place, and start-of-day chip leader Ben Petrillo, who hit the rail in 36th place. The dinner break was reached with 30 players remaining and when they returned after eating, the real action began as several big hands (as mentioned previously) unfolded that helped shape the landscape headed into the final day.

Day 3 will begin at noon local time as the 15 remaining players will return to Level 27 with blinds at 25,000/50,000 and a big blind ante of 50,000. PokerNews will be on hand once again to provide all the action packed updates as a winner will be crowned.

Justin Hoffman
Justin Hoffman

Justin Hoffman moved all in preflop over a raise from Michael Kassem. It folded around to Bud Gibson who thought for a while before folding after about 15 seconds.

Kassem tossed in one chip to call the all in instantly and turned over the {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} which was crushing the {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} of Hoffman.

The board ran out {3-Spades}{q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and Hoffman was eliminated by rockets.

Jackson was ahead with the {a-Hearts}{6-Spades} while Guthrie had the {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

The turn brought home the straight for Guthrie as the {4-Diamonds} rolled off. The {10-Clubs} peeled off the river to confirm Jackson's elimination and give Guthrie a huge chip advantage.

Hannah Guthrie
Hannah Guthrie

On a flop of {j-Clubs}{7-Spades}{k-Clubs}. Hannah Guthrie bet 30,000 into two opponents. Garry Simms raised to 150,000. The third player in the hand folded after a decently long tank. After the fold, Guthrie quickly called.

The turn was the {a-Spades}. Both players checked.

The river came the {6-Clubs}. Simms checked again. Guthrie put together some chips and put out a bet of 200,000. Simms thought for about 40 seconds before calling.

Guthrie turned over the {q-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for the rivered flush and all Simms could do was muck his hand while Guthrie surges toward the top of the chip counts.

A lot of chips were already in the middle on a flop of {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. Jeffery Revell bet 55,000 into two opponents. Christopher Barton raised all in for his remaining amount of about 285,000.

Garry Simms called the all in, leaving Revell in a tough situation. After several moments of thought he folded his hand.

Barton was at risk and in trouble as his {k-}{k-} was behind the {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} of Simms.

The turn was the {a-Clubs} and the river came the {3-Spades} to eliminate Barton and give Simms a huge stack.
