Vincent Moscati
Vincent Moscati

It is time for Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Circuit Cherokee $1,700 Main Event. This tournament drew 1,057 total entries, exactly one more than last year in the same event. Of those who began, 174 players remain (59 from Flight A and 115 from Flight B) and will return to action at 12 p.m. local time to battle down to the elite stages of the event.

The chip leaders heading into day include several big WSOP circuit names. Pete Theodocion, tops the field as he brings an impressive count of 613,000 with him into Day 2. Circuit ring winner Elilton Gouveia is second in chips with 543,000. Vincent Mosacti, who is not far removed from his second place finish in the Choctaw Main Event comes in at third with 540,000 chips. Well known players Ryan D’Angelo (490,000) and thirteen time circuit ring winner Maurice Hawkins (483,000) who is looking to make yet another deep run in Cherokee and recreate his 2016 victory here at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort.

Outside of the chip leaders a few of the other well known players who will compete on Day 2 include; Ryan Eriquezzo (265,000), Marius Conan (263,000) Martin Kozlov (236,000), and Richard Seymour (203,000).

Of the 174 players that remain, 159 of them will make the money. Meaning that the start of Day 2 will likely be tentative bubble play before the money threshold is reached early in the day, when the surviving players assure themselves at least the min cash of $2,550.

Play begins at 12 p.m. local time at level 17 with blinds at 2,000/5,000 and a 5,000 big blind ante. Each level will be 60 minutes in length and a 15 minute break will be every two levels. There is no dinner break scheduled for Day 2 and play will conclude after ten levels with however many players are left standing.

Keep it locked here for all of the live updates throughout the entirety of Day 2 from your PokerNews live reporting team.

Moscati Arrives to Aces

Level 17 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Vincent Moscati was a little late getting to his seat to start Day 2 but his timing couldn't have been any better. After arriving at the table, the cards were already spread out on the felt with Avinash Koneru at risk for around 90,000 chips.

Moscati had {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} laid out in front of him and the board was favoring him as well. The board read {k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{a-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Moscati's set of aces was more than enough to eliminate Koneru from the tournament.

Lowery Wins Three-Way Pot

Level 17 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Three players saw a flop of {8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{q-Hearts}. After a couple of checks, Daniel Lowery was in position and on the button and bet 9,000. He was called by both Mark Merritt and Martin Kozlov.

The turn was the {2-Spades}. Lowery bet 20,000 this time when it was checked to him and both of his opponents called again.

The river was the {10-Diamonds}. This time Merritt led out with a bet of 60,000, Kozlov folded his hand and Lowery called.

Merritt turned over {k-}{10-} for trips but was bested by the better kicker as Lowery showed the {a-}{10-}.

Parker Hits the Turn and River to Double Through Hawkins

Level 17 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

The action folded to Maurice Hawkins in the cutoff who made it 15,000 to go. Kevin Parker defended from the big blind and the flop came {10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Parker checked to Hawkins who continued for 22,000 and Parker check-raised all in for 143,000. Hawkins snap-called and the cards were tabled.

Kevin Parker: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Maurice Hawkins: {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

The turn brought the {q-Clubs} to give Parker the lead and the {5-Diamonds} on the river improved him to a flush in order to double through Hawkins.

Taylor Wins a Classic Flip

Level 17 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

After a couple of preflop raises, Spencer Taylor and Matthew Green got all of their chips in the middle in what was a massive pot. Green was the player at risk for just over 200,000 chips and the two players were flipping.

Spencer Taylor: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Matthew Green: {a-}{k-}

The flop of {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades} left Taylor in the lead with his pair of queens although Green picked up a straight draw. The {2-Hearts} on the turn narrowed Green's outs as Taylor picked up a flush draw. The river was the {8-Hearts} to give Taylor a flush and Green was ousted prior to the money.

Mcclanahan Raises Flop to Force Two Out

Level 17 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

On a flop of {5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Sonny Franco bet 15,000. Brad Wilson called. Shawn Mcclanahan then raised to 42,000.

Franco went deep into the tank, considering the raise and the two players still in the hand. Eventually the clock was called on him and he folded as the seconds ticked down. Wilson also folded after he thought for about ten seconds and Mcclanahan took in the pot right before the money bubble broke.

Chen Overbets the Big Stack

Level 17 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

On the river the board read {6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{a-Clubs}. Leo Chen announced a big bet of 70,000 and then cut out the chips into a pot of close to 50,000. His opponent who was left to consider the bet was the start if day chip leader Pete Theodocion who thought about it for a few seconds but relented his hand fairly quickly to the bet.
