Day 2 of the 2019 World Series of Poker Horseshoe Southern Indiana $1,700 Main Event saw 67 players return to the felt from a starting field of 357. After ten levels of play, just nine players remained with Robert James and his 3,080,000 chip stack leading the way. James, who also bagged the overall chip lead after the starting Day 1 flights, will be looking to improve on last year's ninth-place finish in this very event, With a healthy stack of 77 big blinds to work with, he looks poised to contend for his second career WSOPC ring.

The other Day 1 chip leader, Arizona poker pro Nick Pupillo, is second in chips after a roller-coaster day on the felt saw him end up with 2,200,000 in chips. Pupillo, who is currently ranked 10th on the GPI, is seeking his fourth WSOPC ring with a win in this event. Rounding out the top three is Thomas Alcorn with 1,415,000.

Three-time gold ring winner John Gallaher (1,380,000) is the only other player over a million, as the rest of the field will be looking to chip up in a hurry at the start of Day 3. Jesse Carter (840,000) and David Winrich (610,000) have a little breathing room, while Kenneth Ware (415,000), along with WSOP Bracelet winners Brett Apter (390,000) and Alan Percal (375,000) will have their work cut out for them, as they all three will start with under eleven big blinds.

Day 2 Action

Thirteen players left the tournament empty-handed during Day 2, including William Watson, Jeremy Brown, and Robert Gray. Benjamin Grise was sent home as the bubble boy when his kings ran into Alcorn's aces, leaving the remaining 54 players a minimum of $2,550 richer.

Once the bubble burst, Carter ran with the chip lead for a few levels, before the final levels saw Pupillo, Alcorn, and James jostle for the chip lead. James was able to catch a set on Pupillo's top-top in one pivotal hand, and James road the momentum of that hand to take the chip lead for good in Level 23 (10,000/20,000/20,000), putting nearly a million chips distance between himself and Pupillo by night's end.

Some of those who went home with a share of the prize pool include final table bubble boy David Cali (10th - $8,140), Brian Powell (23rd - $4,087), WSOP Bracelet winners Jessica Dawley (27th - $3,600) and Kyle Cartwright (31st - $2,956), Jake Bazeley (36th - $2,758), Jerod Smith (49th - $2,550), and Ravi Raghavan (54th - $2,550).

David Cali Eliminated in 10th Place ($8,140)

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
David Cali
David Cali

David Cali raised to 75,000 from under the gun, then called a three-bet to 200,000 from Thomas Alcorn in middle position.

Cali open-shoved for 485,000 on the {q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop, and Alcorn snap-called for 445,000.

Thomas Alcorn: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
David Cali: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Cali's top pair was crushed by the aces of Alcorn, and no help came on the {5-Clubs} turn or {2-Hearts} river to leave Cali with under a single big blind, which he lost the very next hand to Alan Percal.

Bill Horsman

Bill Horsman jammed for 155,000 from the button, and Alan Percal called in the big blind.

Bill Horsman: {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Alan Percal: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}

Horsman survived the {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} flop, and Percal said, "King!" looking for chop outs.

The {8-Hearts} hit the turn, and Percal changed his tune, saying, "Eight!"

Instead, the {4-Clubs} slammed on the river, and Horsman hung his head, before heading off to get paid.

Kenny Smith jammed for 341,000 from the hijack, and David Cali three-bet shoved for 850,000 in the cutoff, chasing out the rest of the field.

Kenny Smith: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
David Cali: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

It was all but over after the {3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{a-Hearts} flop left Smith looking for running cards, but the {6-Hearts} turn and {k-Diamonds} river wouldn't help Smith, who wished the table luck before hitting the rail.

Michael Foley Eliminated in 13th Place ($6,672)

John Gallaher raised to 36,000 from middle position, and Bill Horsman called in the hijack. Michael Foley three-bet shoved for 277,000 on the button, and Gallaher four-bet shoved for 585,000. Horsman tanked for two minutes, then folded.

Michael Foley: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
John Gallaher: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Foley needed a lot of help to survive, and found a little on the {q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop. The {9-Hearts} turn added a straight draw to Foley's outs, but the {3-Hearts} river bricked off, leaving Foley a few spots shy of his third consecutive Final Table here at the WSOPC Horseshoe Southern Indiana Main Event.

"I folded queens!" Horsman said once the river hit, indicating he would've one-outered Gallaher and scored a double knockout.

Steven Karp Eliminated in 14th Place ($6,672)

Jesse Carter raised to 40,000 from middle position, and Steven Karp three-bet to 109,000, leaving himself just 15,000 behind. Robert James tanked for a minute before calling in the big blind, and Carter called as well.

James led out for 200,000 on the {4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} flop, and Carter folded, while Karp called off his last 15,000.

Steven Karp: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Robert James: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

"No deuce!" James said after the {8-Spades} turn meant Karp could only chop the pot.

"No spade!" Carter said before the {j-Spades} river hit, and he cringed, then told the table he folded a spade, and later confirmed it was {q-Spades}{q-} in his hand. Karp was eliminated while James regained the chip lead.

Seth Schikler Eliminated in 15th Place ($6,672)

Seth Schikler
Seth Schikler

Brett Apter raised to 33,000 from the button, then called a three-bet shove from Seth Schikler in the big blind for 289,000.

Seth Schikler: {j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Brett Apter: {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

Apter's good call was rewarded when the {10-Spades}{a-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop left Schikler looking for running cards, and they wouldn't appear on the {3-Hearts} turn or {9-Spades} river to end his run.

Thomas Alcorn raised to 40,000 from the button, then called a three-bet shove for 239,000 from Devin Limburg in the small blind.

Devin Limburg: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Thomas Alcorn: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Limburg stood up before the flop, and his intuition was spot on, as the {2-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop left Limburg's Big Slick drawing dead before the {q-Diamonds} turn and {4-Spades} river could fall.

After a raise to 40,000 from Nick Pupillo from under the gun and a call from David Cali in the hijack, Merton Toler three-bet shoved for 284,000 on the button. Pupillo called and Cali folded.

Merton Toler: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Nick Pupillo: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Toler hit top pair on the {10-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop to take the lead, and held on the {7-Diamonds} turn. The {k-Clubs} river gave Pupillo Broadway, however, and Toler made his exit.
