Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Orville Story
Orville Story

Day 1b of the WSOP Circuit Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Main Event has reached its conclusion after 712 entries brought the total number of entries to 1,162. At the end of the night after 11 hours of intense and at times ‘confrontational’ action, 154 players remained from Day 1b.

The chip leader at the end of play was Orville Story, who bagged 498,000. The hard to miss figure of Story was spotted in the last few levels of the day with a huge stack that grew to its largest point as play ended to gain the chip lead.

Second in chips at the end was Aaron Gunn with 474,000. A smidgen behind him in third was David Tuthill who continued his hot week here in Tampa by bagging 473,500.

After the top three stacks there was a significant drop off as the fourth stack of 332,000 bagged by Thomas Foley sits 150,000 behind Tuthill’s stack.

Other Notables who bagged and survived the day include; Al Krux (273,000), Tony Miles (218,000), Ralph Massey (140,000), who had a particularly interesting day, Hamid Izadi (137,500) and James Calderaro (87,500).

The 154 who survived Day 1b will join the 88 who made it through Day 1b to create a Day 2 starting field of 242. Play will get underway on Day 2 at 12 noon local time on Sunday February 16 at level 15 with blinds at 2,000/4,000 and a 4,000 big blind ante.

PokerNews will once again provide you with all the coverage you could hope for, so make sure to tune in to Day 2 tomorrow.

Newman Scoops Wild Hand

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante
Michael Newman
Michael Newman

A huge three-way pot was brewing at a table in the corner of the room.

The flop read {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. It appeared as though the first player in seat 9 had bet 6,000. The next player to act moved all in for about 40,000. Michael Newman re-shoved his stack which was about 73,000. The initial bettor then had the decision on him as the at risk players were standing up, waiting for the verdict on their immediate future.

After several moments the chair was called over as one of the all in players had spoke about the strength of their hand. The floor ruled there was no foul play and the hand continued. After about a minute the initial bettor in seat 9 called and the cards were turned up, reavealing three pocket pairs.

Michael Newman {9-Spades}{9-Spades}
Seat 9 {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

Newman was in good shape with top set but had to fade the straight draw, while seat 9 had to hope for a miracle. The turn was the {6-Spades} to give Newman the boat and the {q-Spades} on the river confirmed the huge pot for Newman, eliminated one player and left seat 9 with a just a few big blinds.
