Welcome Back for Day 2 of the $1,700 Main Event

Christopher Miller
Christopher Miller

There will be 79 players returning to the felt for Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Circuit Horseshoe Tunica $1,700 Main Event. After two starting flights that attracted a total of 491 entries, both days played down to a minimum of 16% of the field.

Leading the way when the players take their seats will be Christopher Miller from Decatur, Alabama. It was quite the day for the amateur player who has yet to record a cash according to the Hendon Mob, as Miller bagged up a whopping 514,000 chips. He is well ahead of his next closest competitor Stephan Nussrallah with 387,000 chips.

They will have their hands full with a very strong field looking to chase them down in order to reach the final table. Some of the big names to keep an eye on as the day unfolds include Greg Jennings (326,000), Scott Stewart (305,000), Warren Sheaves (224,000), and defending champion Kyle Cartwright (204,000).

It will be an exciting start the day as the field is only five eliminations from bursting the money bubble. There will be 74 places paid with a min-cash being worth $2,777. While that will be the first goal for many of the players, they will all have their sights set on the first-place prize of $144,313.

The action will get underway at 12 p.m. local time with around 15 minutes remaining in level 16 at 2,000/4,000 and a 4,000 big blind ante. After that, the schedule will consist of ten 60-minute levels or until the final table is reached. There will be a 15-minute break after every two levels and a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level of the day.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on site to bring you all of the updates from the first pitch of the cards until the final table is formed.

Kelley Eliminates Bartlett on the Money Bubble

Level 17 : 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Bryant Kelley bursts the bubble
Bryant Kelley bursts the bubble

Todd Bartlett raised it up from middle position and Bryant Kelley defended from the big blind. The flop fell {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Spades} and Kelley checked to Bartlett who tossed in a continuation bet. Kelley check-raised to 40,000 only to have Bartlett shove all in for 217,000. Kelley quickly called and the cards were tabled once all of the other action was completed.

Bryant Kelley: {a-Spades}{5-Spades}
Todd Bartlett: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

Bartlett flopped a set of sevens but wasn't out of the weeds yet as Kelley had top pair with the nut flush draw. The {9-Clubs} on the turn was safe for Bartlett but it was the {3-Spades} on the river that gave Kelley a flush. Bartlett exited the tournament as the bubble boy and the remaining 74 players have all locked up a min-cash of $2,777.

Straight Flush Launches Barousse Into the Lead

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Blake Barousse
Blake Barousse

Benjamin Thomas opened to 17,000 from under the gun and picked up four callers along the way. Five players saw a flop of {6-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and what an action flop it was. It checked to Blake Barousse in the cutoff who bet 64,000 and only Earle Schwarz called on his right.

The {k-Spades} landed on the turn and Schwarz checked again. Barousse announced all in and Schwarz wasted no time in calling off his stack of just under 300,000. Schwarz flipped over {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for top pair and a flush draw and Barousse needed some help with {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

The river brought the {7-Clubs} which gave Schwarz a flush but Barousse improved to a straight flush. "That's sick," some players at the table agreed. The monster pot sent Schwarz to the payout desk and moved Barousse to the top of the leaderboard.

Chris Miller

Scott Stewart made it 20,000 to go from the cutoff and Christopher Miller three-bet to 110,000 from the big blind. Stewart called and the dealer fanned the flop of {k-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. Miller announced all in for 241,000 and Stewart asked for a count before dipping into the think tank. After a couple of minutes, Stewart called and the cards were tabled.

Scott Stewart: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Christopher Miller: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Stewart made the right call and now it was all up to the fate of the cards. The {3-Spades} and {5-Diamonds} run-out proved to be safe for Stewart who barely had the start-of-day chipleader covered.

"The Barry Greenstein"

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Trace Henderson
Trace Henderson

Trace Henderson limped in from the hijack and Blake Barousse also called on the button. Blake Whittington jammed all in for 580,000 in the big blind and Trace Henderson also pushed all in for 314,000 which got Barousse to fold.

Trace Henderson: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Blake Whittington: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The two players were off to the races and the flop of {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Hearts} left Whittington in the lead. The {6-Clubs} on the turn was also good for Whittington but the {a-Diamonds} on the river gave Henderson the best hand. It's known as "The Barry Greenstein" when the ace hits the river and this time it resulted in a double up for Henderson.

Kyle Cartwright
Kyle Cartwright

Kyle Cartwright and Kelvin Douglas were heads-up in a pot with the flop reading {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts}. With around 200,000 in the middle already, Douglas check-called a bet from Cartwright to see the {j-Clubs} on the turn.

Douglas checked again and Cartwright moved all in for 620,000. Douglas asked for a count but eventually made the call. Cartwright turned over {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for a set of eights while Douglas was drawing to two outs with {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}. The river brought the {2-Hearts} and Cartwright held on for a massive double up into the chip lead.

Walker Miskelly: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Blake Whittington: {10-Spades}{8-Spades}

Whittington had two live cards but the flop of {9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} whiffed him. The turn was the {a-Clubs} to give Miskelly a pair of aces and Whittington was left drawing dead to the {6-Spades} on the river.

Harry Sablotny
Harry Sablotny

Bryan Piccioli opened to 50,000 from under the gun and Harry Sablotny ripped all in for around 300,000 in middle position. The action folded back to Piccioli who instantly called to put Sablotny at risk.

Bryan Piccioli: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Harry Sablotny: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

Not only did Piccioli hold the higher of the two pocket pairs, but he also both of the suits covered. The flop of {k-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} all but left Sablotny drawing dead. The {10-Diamonds} on the turn sealed the deal and the {q-Hearts} on the river was just a formality.

Matthew Higgins opened to 60,000 from under the gun and was called by Blake Barousse on his left. Michael McKuin three-bet shoved all in for 475,000 in the cutoff and the action was back on Higgins. He thought for a minute before making the call and Barousse also gave it some thought but decided to fold.

Matthew Higgins: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Michael McKuin: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}

McKuin instantly stood up from his seat when he saw the bad news and the flop of {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} didn't provide much help. The {4-Spades} on the turn left McKuin drawing dead to the {7-Hearts} on the river and Higgins jumped into the chip lead.
