Day 1a Started

Welcome to Day 1a of the 2022 WSOP International Circuit Main Event at King's Resort

The 2022 World Series of Poker International Circuit continues right where it concluded in the previous year, as the King's Resort in Rozvadov plays host to the popular mid-stakes contest once more. Europe's biggest poker arena has already been filled with action at the live poker tables for more than two weeks as the festival kicked off on January 5.

However, the crown jewel of the schedule still awaits with the €1,700 Main Event. Poker enthusiasts from near and far will be competing for the elusive WSOP Circuit gold ring and a seven-figure prize pool. The flagship tournament comes with a €1,000,000 guarantee and offers two starting days on January 21 and 22, respectively.

Day 1a is slated to get underway at 2pm local time and all participants receive 50,000 in chips. That is worth 250 big blinds in the first level, which features blinds of 100-200 and a big blind ante of 200. All levels last 60 minutes long and nine of them will be played on each of the two starting days with breaks every two levels.

The defending champion at King's Resort is Italy's Andrea Ricci, who defeated fellow countryman Simone Lombardo in September 2021. Back then, the tournament attracted a field of 912 entries and paid out €1,342,920 in prize money. Whether or not Ricci will return to King's in order to defend his title remains to be seen.

All participants can purchase up to two re-entries during each starting day and the late registration remains open for the first eleven levels, two levels into Day 2 on Sunday, January 23. The tournament concludes on January 25 and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor from start to finish.

Small Showdown Pot for Hamouche

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Romain Hamouche opened to 500 from the button on a short-handed table and was called by Nicu Sirbu in the big blind. On the {10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop, Sirbu opted to check-call a bet worth 600 and they then checked down the {k-Hearts} turn and {j-Spades} river. Sirbu tabled the {8-Hearts}{7-Spades} for a busted double gutshot, which Hamouche had beat with {7-Clubs}{6-Spades} for a pair of sixes.

Radinger Chips Up With a Straight

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

With a pot of around 7,000 chips to the {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop, Kurt Radinger in the hijack and Nicolae Modrea in the cutoff checked. The {9-Spades} turn was also checked by Radinger, who then called a bet of 3,500 by Modrea. Both players checked down the {q-Diamonds} on the river and Radinger claimed the pot with {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} for a king-high straight.

Bendik Collects on the Flop

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

In a four-way pot to the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop, the action was checked to Alexandru Budai in the hijack and he made it 1,000 to go. Viorel Gavrila called on the button and Jan Bendik then opted for a check-raise to 5,500 out of the small blind. The fourth player in the hand let go, and the same also applied for Budai and Gavrila.

Bendik is one of the most well-known participants in the field alongside EPT Sochi champion Uri Gilboa.

Fernandez Alcantara Wins Without Showdown

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

With plenty of chips already in the middle and the turn reading {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{q-Spades}{2-Clubs}, David Schick bet 6,600 from a middle position. He was only called by Daniel Fernandez Alcantara on the button and Schick then fired another bet worth 16,000 on the {q-Diamonds} river. Fernandez Alcantara sigh-called and Schick instantly mucked his cards.

When some other players glanced over at the Dutchman, he simply shrugged and said "it's a re-entry".

The First Seat Open

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

It didn't take long for the action to pick up at the tables despite everyone starting with 250 big blinds. While the satellite is on the money bubble, the first player bowed out on Day 1a of the Main Event and that happened to be Ioannis Chaitas. The board was already rushed away and it seems rather certain that the Greek will be back at some point.

His chips now belong to Jonathan Rosenwasser, who has become the early chip leader mid-way through level one.
