Day 2 action from the Seniors Event will begin at 2pm. 121 players survived day one, and the massive 1,882-player field and will return today at 2:00 p.m. PDT for Day 2.
Amongst those returning are three very big names who all share one common bond; they've all held the title of WSOP Main Event Champion. We're talking about Amarillo Slim Preston (1972), Tom McEvoy (1983) and Brad Daugherty (1991). See you at 2pm.
The players are filing into their seats for the 2pm restart of the $1,000 Seniors Event, and they're sitting at the tables used yesterday for the $50K H.O.R.S.E. tournament. A little more space, a little more room to maneuver for the 121 players remaining in today's field. We'll be getting underway in a few minutes.
We're only half an hour into today's event and already we've lost more than 10% of the field. The following players each received $2,398:
121: Evelyn Eisenbrey
120: Sally Barr
119: Louise Quintana
118: Larry Jones
117: Michael Skyhorse
116: Kevin Trubman
115: David Steirman
114: Roy Duleba
113: Ronald Bowsher
Under the gun Nick Baxter raised to 7,000 and on the cutoff Joel King moved all-in for 17,000 more. Baxter called and showed , King held . The board ran out and King doubled up to 62,000, while Baxter lost a big chunk of his stack and now sits with 37,000.
Cautious, tight, passive play? Not these players. The line formed at the payoff table a few minutes after we started and it hasn't let up yet. The most recent players who found the rail:
111: Steven Schwarts
110: Cameron Doner
109: David Bartholomew
108: Bruce Corman
107: David Cloud
106: Michael Pfeiffer
105: Charles Fisher
104: Edward Canfield
These players also received $2,398 for their finish today.
One of the game's great champions (and one of our chip leaders coming into play today), Amarillo Slim Preston played a big pot with Hassan Kamoei and came out on the wrong end. Kamoei raised to 9,000 and Slim popped it up to 34K. Kamoei moved all-in, Slim called and turned over pocket Tens. But Kamoei had the Aces, and despite picking up a diamond draw on the flop, Amarillo Slim didn't catch the cards he needed the rest of the way and was eliminated.
The players and spectators around the table gave him an impromptu ovation as he stood up from the table, and as he walked to the payout table Media Director Nolan Dalla made an announcement to the entire Amazon Room that the former World Champion had been eliminated. And the entire room gave Amarillo Slim another big round of applause. Slim goes out in 96th place.
