Overheard In the Room...

To accommodate ESPN and other media outlets we may be breaking tables in a different order to free up more room for everyone to maneuver. Between the camera crews and boom mikes and railbirds and the tireless members of our Live Update team, it can get a bit crowded. So they may stagger how the tables are broken to keep the aisles from becoming gridlocked.

All in and a Call!

All in and a call on table 58! Table 14! Table 75!

That cry goes up every few seconds here in the Amazon Room as players continue to bust at a rapid pace. Tables are being broken down as fast as the tournament staff can get there and our field has condensed entirely into one half of this once-packed room. As the playing space shrinks, the aisles are growing more crowded with media and ESPN camera crews weaving through. Some spectators have also been let in to the room (though not nearly as many as they did on the uber-packed Day 1A) and they're lined up two deep on the rail, sweating their friends and family members.

There are approximately 558 players left in the field.

Evelyn Ng Eliminated; Matt Sterling Up To 127,000

Matt Sterling raises from middle position to 4,000, and Evelyn Ng moves all in from the cutoff for about 27,000. Sterling says, "Oh no," as if he didn't want that to happen. Everyone else folds, and Ng shows {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Sterling shows {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}.

The board comes {A-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, and Sterling flops a set of aces to win the pot. Evelyn Ng is eliminated from the Main Event.

Shortly before that hand, Matt Sterling had eliminated another player when his pocket tens held up against pocket nines.

Matt Sterling is now up to about 127,000.

Jared Hamby Wins a Monster Pot

Hamby raised to 4,500 and Gene Strickland re-raised to 17,500. Hamby popped it to 28K and Strickland responded by moving all-in. Hamby instantly called and showed pocket Aces, while Strickland held A-K. The Aces held up and Hamby doubled up to 380,000, which puts him (for the moment) at the top of our chip counts. Strickland saw his stack fall to 120K.

He Said What?

A short-stacked player in late position said "All-in" and started pushing his chips into the middle. Started to. Before he did the player in the small blind said "Call". Unfortunately, he didn't hear the all-in. And learned to his dismay that his verbal declaration was binding and he was on the hook for 28,000.

Making matters worse was that his {J-Spades}{8-Spades} was dominated by his opponent's {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. Making matters better was the {6-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop, which gave him both a straight and flush draw. But the {10-Clubs} and {4-Clubs} on the turn and river didn't help and his moment of inattention cost him a tidy chunk of his stack.

Johnny Bax's One-Two Punch

Cliff "Johnny Bax" Josephy busted a player after winning two conseuctive hands against the same player.

On the first hand, Josephy's pocket Aces held up on a board of 8-8-2-6-6. His opponent mucked on the river.

On the next hand, his opponent made an all-in tilt raise with {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Josephy called with 5-5. He flopped a full house to send his opponent to the rail.

The Nuts Don't Hold Up

Holding {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} John White and another player saw a flop of {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. White called a bet holding the nut straight, and after the {5-Clubs} hit on the turn all the money went in the middle. White's opponent held {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for top pair and the flush draw...and the {2-Clubs} on the river gave his opponent the runner-runner flush to eliminate White.

Deb Blair Doubles Up

Blair and another player ended up with all the money in the middle after the {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop. Blair turned over {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for the set, her opponent held {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for top pair and the nut flush draw. Blair survived the {4-Diamonds} on the turn and {3-Spades} on the river to double up to 285,000.
