Sully Erna Needs this Pot

The UTG player raised to 3,600 pre-flop, Sully Erna (of Godsmack fame) called from middle position, the cutoff called and Matt Brady called from the button. The flop was {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{8-Spades}. UTG bet 7,200, and crying out "I need this pot!" Erna moved all in for 23,000. The cutoff moved all in behind him for 40,000, Brady folded, and UTG mucked {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} face-up. Erna turned up {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for top pair, while the cutoff tabled {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} for middle set. Erna would need a miracle to survive... and he got it with the {10-Clubs} on the turn and the {9-Clubs} on the river, making him a runner-runner straight to win the pot.

Erna was up to 72,000 after the hand.

Amnon Filippi Runs Two Pair Into a Flush

One player is all in preflop, while the button and Amnon Filippi (in the big blind) continue playing for a side pot. The flop comes {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, and both players check. The turn card is the {5-Clubs}, Filippi checks, his opponent bets 40,000, and Filippi calls. The river card is the {A-Spades}, and both players check.

Filippi's shows {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for two pair, tens and sixes, but his opponent wins the side pot with {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a club flush. The all-in player mucks, and the flush takes the entire pot.

Amnon Filippi is down to about 34,000 in chips.

Gus Hansen Cleans Up His Mess, But Pays The Price

Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enters the pot from late position, and the small blind moves all in for about 9,800. There is a question as to how much he has and how much is in the pot. The dealer recreates the action with the help of another player, and they count down the pot, coming up with 9,600. Hansen notices an error, and he steps in to do it again, this time coming up with 9,800. The original player sees his error, and everyone agrees that everything is correct.

At this point, Gus Hansen says, "I guess I have to call since I made this mess." Hansen calls with {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, and his opponent shows {A-Spades}{6-Clubs} -- Hansen figured his cards would at least be live, but he's dominated.

The board comes {8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, and his opponent doubles up. Hansen is down to about 180,000.

Richard Murnick vs. Jon 'PearlJammer' Turner

The turn card is the {J-Clubs}, and both players check. The river card is the {9-Diamonds}, Murnick bets 15,000, and Turner calls.

Murnick shows {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for the nut flush, and Turner mucks.

Murnick builds his stack to 290,000, while Turner drops down to 36,000.

Daniel Negreanu Loses A Pot...But It Could've Been Worse

From the cutoff Negreanu raised to 3,000 and the player in the small blind re-raised to 9K. Negreanu called and they saw a {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{Q-Spades} flop. The other player bet 12K, Negreanu called. Then they both checked down the {2-Clubs} on the turn and the {5-Diamonds} on the river. The other player showed a conservatively-played pair of Aces, while Negreanu flashed a Queen before mucking. He's now down to 175K.
