A Higher Power?

You hear all sorts of screams and shouts and demands for justice when players bet the last of your chips. From across the floor we just heard a woman shriek, "THANK YOU GOD! I LOVE YOU!!!" as she hit a 1-outer on the river to stay in the tournament.

We didn't hear what the player she rivered said. But you can probably use your imagination and come up with a few things.

Ted Forrest Loses Three-way Pot

Hal Labarsky raised 3,200. Ted Forrest called. A player from the button re-raised to 21,000. The big blind raised to 47,000. Labarsky folded. Forrest went into the tank before he called.

Seat 1: A-K
Seat 3: A-A
Forrest: {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The flop was {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades}. The turn was the {3-Clubs}. The river was the {6-Hearts}. The player holding pocket Aces tripled up. Forrest took a hit and his stack slipped to 172,000.

Labarsky folded 3-3. He would have flopped a set and turned quads.

Rick Salomon Eliminated

Rick Salomon, who rose to fame as the significant other in the scandalous Paris Hilton sex video, has been eliminated from the Main Event.

Shame on us for not noticing him earlier, but in our defense, the quality of that video was pretty poor. And we weren't really paying attention to Salomon.

Come On, This Is Exciting Stuff!!

The cameras at the ESPN Feature Table just zoomed in on a bearded gentleman who is sound asleep in the stands. He was just sitting there, eyes closed and counting sheep, when the camera zeroed in on him and broadcast his slumbering to the entire crowd. And he got the biggest round of applause of the day.

Humberto Brenes Avoids Domination, But Would Have Chopped

Humberto Brenes

There was a big ruckus on one side of the room shortly before the break as ESPN's cameras surrounded a table, along with a handful of other media. Here's what happened --

A player in late position raises to 3,500, the cutoff calls, Humberto Brenes reraises from the big blind to 15,000, the original raiser moves all in, the cutoff moves all in, and Brenes goes into the tank.

This is when ESPN caught wind of the situation and swarmed the table, and Brenes was suddenly "on." Out came the shark, and the usual Humberto antics, all for the cameras. Humberto says he would call the first raiser, but not the player in the cutoff, and he folds {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}.

The player in late position shows {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, and the cutoff shows {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}. Humberto is obviously happy with his fold, and thanks the cutoff for "saving me."

But the board brings {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, and neither player has a heart. (Humberto was heart-less as well.) The two players chop the pot, splitting the 15,000 that Brenes added to it.

Chris Ferguson Cracks Kings to Double Up in Chips

Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson raises preflop, the player in the cutoff reraises, Ferguson moves all in for 40,500, and the cutoff goes into the tank for a while before calling with {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. Ferguson shows {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}, and the cutoff briefly breathes a sigh of relief, happy to not see two aces.

His relief was short lived, as he sees a second ace flop on a board of {A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Spades}, and Ferguson wins the pot with a pair of aces, doubling up in chips.

Allan Laurson Doubles Up When His Opponent Rivers a Set

Shortly before the break, PokerNews Team Member Allan Laursen is all in preflop for 16,000 with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades} against his opponent's {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}. The board comes {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, and both players cheer when the ten of diamonds falls on the river.

His opponent saw nothing but a set of tens, but Laursen reads the board correctly, as he has an ace-high straight for the win. Allan Laursen doubles up to about 36,000 in chips.

Nothing But Love From the Dealers

With eight more minutes left in the break, assistant tournament director Chris Spears announces over the P.A. system that the security guards should let the players back in the room. A chorus of dealers jokingly cry, "No!" "Not yet!" "Three more minutes!"

It seems that the dealers rather enjoy the peaceful state of the Amazon Room during the breaks. It is in stark contrast to the loud chaos that fills the halls.
