Did We Get That?

There was just an all-in and call at Table 204. Which attracted the following list of observers who quickly surrounded the players:

2 cameramen
2 boom mikes that criss-crossed the table
7 reporters/producers
2 floormen

And that's a scene that will be repeated over and over the rest of the day.

Shirley Williams Doubles Up

Shirley Williams
Shirley Williams
Shirley Williams (mother of professional player David Williams) is all in preflop for 28,200 with {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} against another player's {Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. The board comes {K-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, and Williams turns a set of aces to win the pot and double up to about 58,000 in chips.

Dion Fotopoulos Eliminated

A player raises from late position,Team PokerNews player Dion Fotopoulos moves all in from the big blind for about 70,000, and his opponent calls with Q-Q. Fotopoulos shows J-J, and he'll need to improve to stay alive.

Unfortunately, the board doesn't improve Fotopoulos's hand, and he is eliminated from the Main Event.

A Good Time To Pick Up Kings

Not that there's ever a bad time to hold pocket Kings (well, unless someone has pocket Aces...never mind) but after a player with pocket Jacks moved in for his last 30K a player with pocket Tens called. Joe Brandenburg looked down at Cowboys and raised to 120K. That was enough to set the player with Tens all-in, and after the board ran out Q-5-3-8-2, Brandenburg sent two players to the rail and increased his stack to 260,000.

Danny Smith Likes the Check-Raise

Danny Smith opened the pot for 7,500 from the cutoff, Ken Evanowski raised to 22,000 from the button, and Smith called. The flop was {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. Smith checked, Evanowski bet 35,000, Smith raised to 80,000 and Evanowski folded. Smith took the pot and increased his stack to 247,000.
