Raymond Rahme
WSOP media director Nolan Dalla just made an announcement that Raymond Rahme, at 62 is our oldest player remaining in the Main Event. That gives some of us hope out here.
Raymond is from Johannesburg, South Africa and is a retired entrepreneur who was successful in the auto body business and owned several bed & breakfast hotels. He's being followed around for a major documentary being made on him representing South Africa in the World Series. The All-Africa TV station shows the WSOP, the WPT and other poker events 24/7 and Raymond will be on his own show. In fact, the TV company making the film has already planned a royal reception for Raymond upon his return to South Africa.
Our youngest competitor, Scott Freeman, was just eliminated in 19th place. Perhaps our oldest player in the remaining field will shock the world.
On a flop of , William Spadea fired out 200,000. Lee Watkinson raised to 600,000. Spadea called. The turn was the . Spadea bet 1,000,000 and Watkinson called. The river was the . Both players checked. Watkinson showed for a pair of tens and won the pot.
John Armbrust has the button in seat 2, Philip Hilm raises from early position to 300,000, Raymond Rahme calls from middle position, Childs reraises from late position to 1.1 million, Hilm folds, and Rahme calls. The flop comes , Rahme checks, Childs bets 1,000,000, and Rahme goes into the tank for several minutes.
During the silence, a female's scream of happiness is heard from the other table as Lee Watkinson apparently hits a big card in an all-in situation. (Watkinson himself was not the short stack.) At the Featured Table, Scotty Nguyen quips, "That's more money for the wife!" His line gets a big laugh from the audience in the ESPN arena.
Rahme eventually folds, and Childs shows as he collects the pot.
Ray Henson has the button in seat 3, Philip Hilm limps under the gun for 100,000, David Tran limps from middle position, Ray Henson raises from the button to 400,000, Hilm calls, and Tran folds. (The was accidentally exposed by one of the players who folded.)
The flop comes , and both players check. The turn card is the , and both players check. The river card is the , Hilm bets 700,000, and Henson calls. Hilm shows for a club flush, and Henson mucks. Philip Hilm wins the pot.
