32 Grandchildren

A short-stacked Jerry Yang went all in with pocket eights and found himself up against {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. The eights survived, and as the pot was pushed to Jerry, he smiled and looked over at his parents on the rail. His mom and dad are happy their son won, his mom glancing heavenward saying "Halleluljah!"

Jerry has two sons and five daughters. He lives in Los Angeles and works at a hospital. His parents live in Laos and this is their first visit to Las Vegas. Amazingly, they have 32 grandchildren!

Jerry's parents don't speak very much English but they will tell you "Son -- very good boy!"

Jerry Yang is hanging tough on the short stack. Best of luck to him.

Scotty Nguyen's Chip Count - 2.35 million

Scotty Nguyen
Scotty Nguyen
In the hand where Philip Hilm doubled through Scotty Nguyen, we mistakenly reported Scotty Nguyen as being down to about 1.35 million. That should have been 2.35 million. We've corrected the post, and we wanted to make sure that everyone was aware that fan-favorite Scotty Nguyen's chip situation wasn't quite as dire as originally reported.

Featured Table: Scotty Nguyen Eliminated in 11th Place ($476,926)

11th Place - Scotty Nguyen
11th Place - Scotty Nguyen
Lee Childs has the button in seat 9, Philip Hilm raises under the gun to 480,000, and Scotty Nguyen calls from the big blind. The flop comes {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}, Nguyen moves all in, and Hilm quickly calls.

Nguyen shows {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a flush draw, and Hilm shows {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} for a pair of kings. Nguyen needs to improve to stay alive.

Most of the people in the crowd are shouting for a club, but one guy shouts "Run it twice!" and he gets a big laugh from the crowd.

The turn card is the {2-Hearts}, and Nguyen needs a club on the river to survive.

The river card is the {Q-Spades}, and there is a brief pause as the fans see the black card they were hoping for -- but it's not a club. Philip Hilm wins the pot with two pair, kings and queens.

Scotty Nguyen, the Prince of Poker and the 1998 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion, is eliminated in 11th place, earning $476,926.

Outer Table: Jerry Yang Wins With Top Pair

Jerry Yang has the button. Jon Kalmar raises to 450,000 from under the gun. Jerry Yang calls from the button, as does Hevad "Rain" Khan from the small blind. The three players see a flop of...

{Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

Khan and Kalmar both check. Yang bets 1,000,000 and only Kalmar makes the call. It's heads up to the turn card which comes the {A-Spades}. Both players check. The river brings the {7-Clubs}. Again, both players check. Yang shows {Q-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Kalmar mucks. Yang wins the pot.

Final 10 Players Redraw for the Not-So-Final Table

The players have reached the final table, only we don't call it the final table, because there will be ten players sitting there. The official final table won't begin until Tuesday at 12:00 noon PDT, and it will only have nine players.

Play will continue tonight at this not-so-final final table until one more player is eliminated. Seating and chip counts coming soon.

Scotty Nguyen Takes the Microphone

Scotty Nguyen finishes his ESPN exit interview, and he is handed a microphone to address the crowd. This is nearly word-for-word what he said (you'll have to do your best to imagine it in Scotty's voice):

"First, I want to congratulate all the players here, and I wish the best to all of you. But the most important thing is, I want to thank the fans. Without you guys, we wouldn't have Scotty Nguyen. We're disappointed, but let me tell you, you guys gave me all I need."

At this point, a woman screamed out, "We love you!"

Scotty continued:

"I want to thank ESPN, the Bluff, the whole crews, the whole staff, and everybody here. I wish I could give you more, but for 2007 [he pronounced it as "two-thousand-oh-oh-seven"], that's the end of me. I'll see you back here in 2008."
