A Hellmuthian Arrival?

Despite all the star power in this room, we're still missing one of poker's biggest names: Phil Hellmuth. Making a super-late arrival is nothing new for the Poker Brat, but one has to wonder what he'll do to make his "entrance." Stay tuned...

No Shortage Of Players

The buzz around the WSOP was that this event may only get around 200-250 runners at best. There are currently 350 players entered in the tournament, which seems to be well over the expected amount.

Players such as Amnon Filippi are paying special attention to this number. Filippi had a prop bet going for $1,000 that there will be a total of over 350 contestants in the field. The field is sitting right at 350 players with still time left in late registration. As of right now, the bet is a push.

Late registration will be open for the first two levels of the tournament.

Pescatori in a Sling

Max Pescatori just took his seat next to his fellow countryman, Dario Minieri. The affable Pescatori is unfortunately sporting a sling on his right arm.

When asked about his injury, Pescatori told us that he'd broken his humerus, the bone in the upper arm, in some sort of a brawl.

"There were five of them... but you should see what they look like!" laughed the Italian Pirate.

Kristy Gazes Survives

From the cutoff the short-stacked Kristy Gazes raised to 900 and the button reraised to 2,500, enough to set Kristy all-in. She made the call and showed {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, while her opponent tabled {A-Hearts}{5-Clubs}. The board ran out Q-Q-K-5-9 and Gazes staved off elimination and doubled through to 5,600.

Nordberg Off to a Healthy Start

Jamie Gold raised to 600 from UTG and was called by both Peter "Nordberg" Feldman in early position as well as the small blind. The flop was {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and all three players checked. The turn was the {K-Clubs}. The small blind checked, Gold checked, Feldman bet 1,600, the small blind called and after nearly a three-minute think, Gold folded. The river was the {K-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The small blind turned up {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for a pair of tens, but Feldman had him outkicked with {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and dragged the pot. Feldman is now up to 36,400.

Tilly Bounced

Jennifer Tilly found herself all in preflop with Hasan Habib. Tilly held A-Q and was behind Habib's pocket jacks.

The dealer quickly ran the board {Q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{A-Spades} and Habib made a jack-high straight to eliminate Tilly. Habib added a good amount to his stack on this hand.

Tilly exited saying, "So much for my first time playing pot-limit. They say to bet when you have something."

Theo Tran Takes A Hit

With the board reading {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and 10,000 in the pot, Theo Tran checked and his opponent bet 10,000. Tran made the call, only to see he was up against the {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} and a full house. That hand dropped Tran down to 15,000.
