My Mistake

In a previous post I said that a player who exposed his cards during a hand with Clonie Gowen could've had his hand killed. Not so. The player would've incurred a penalty following the hand. That rule is found in Section VI, Rule 50. Sorry for the error.

And They're Off!

And by that I mean several dozen poker players (including T.J. Cloutier) who have abandoned their tables and are gathered around the TVs in the room watching the Belmont Stakes.

Bellande Gets Creative

After butting heads with a player earlier and getting sucked-out on, Jean-Robert Bellande found himself heads up against the same player on a flop of {A-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {5-Hearts}. Bellande led out for 1,300 and his opponent raised him to 2,750. Bellande thought about calling, removed the 1,450 it would take to call from his chip stack, then stuck another 1,450 on top of it. Bellande then moved the 2,900 in chips to the top of his chip stack, then wrapped his hands around all of his chips as if to shove all in. Immediately after, he looked up at his opponent to see his reaction.

Bellande then shifted the chip stack to the left, then looked at his opponent again. Bellande moved the stack to the right and glanced again at his opponent. Ulitimately, after dancing his chip stack around a few more times, Bellande moved all in. His opponent quickly folded. Bellande smiled and took down the pot.

Laak and the Shark

There's been a bit of a media frenzy over table Orange 16. For the last hour or more Humberto Brenes and Phil Laak have been beating up the players at their table. Humberto had been running it over before Laak's arrival and though they both struggled abit once seated together, they've since taken command. Swarms of fans and press have circled the table for awhile now while the two pros continue to do what it is they do best.

A Tad Excessive?

The new rules concerning excessive celebrations seem to have done the trick. You haven't heard people screaming and yelling and stepping away from the table to display their new dance routine in the aisle.

That said there are the occasional outbursts. Like the one that just happened at Table #17. We're not sure what happened during the hand, but suddenly one player said, "Yes! WHOOOOOO!!!!! ROCKETMAN!!!"

As the losing player stood up and walked away in disgust no less a personage than T.J. Cloutier turned around from his seat at Table #16 and said, "You know that there are rules about excessive celebration, right?" But it appears that shouting "WHOOOO, ROCKETMAN!!!" falls just short of "excessive", as no penalty was given.

What Laak Doesn't Have

Phil Laak called a preflop raise of 650 from the big blind after the small blind called as well. The flop came {K-Spades} {7-Hearts} {3-Spades} and both the small blind and Phil checked to the original raiser, who made it 1,200 to go. The small blind folded while Phil moved all-in.

After his opponent spent a good amount of time thinking, Phil announced "I can tell you what I don't have. I don't have {A-Clubs} {2-Clubs}." His opponent mucked and Phil turned over {5-Spades} {6-Spades}. After the hand, Phil is up to 13,300.
