Doug Lee Doubles Up

Well, the title does what it says on the tin, to quote a famous advert that I hope isn't exclusive to Britain. Sitting pretty with Queens, Doug is now up to the dizzy nosebleed-inducing heights of 5,500.

Piece of Cake

Many observers claim they would be rather intimidated if they were sitting at Table 5, the line-up including Beth Shak, Michael Mizrachi, Jimmy Tran and poker legend and former football player TJ Cloutier, but I think that would be a walk in the park... maybe... gulp, okay, okay, I'd be scared too!!!

Also striking their opponents with fear are Rafe Furst and Eric 'Rizen' Lynch on Table 47 as well as Brandon Cantu and Humberto Brenes on Table 50, the latter of whom would frighten anyone with his plastic, but oh so menacing entourage of sharks.

Flock of Spegals

Defending champion Mike Spegal is jumping for joy with a healthy stack of 5,200 after grabbing a small slice of luck that all players will need if they are to win this event. On their backs, Mike was in spot of bother with queens against those American Airlines, but a flopped queen later and Mike was as happy as Larry, whoever Larry might be (King, perhaps?).

In the aftermath, 'Fossilman' Greg Raymer quipped, "So that's how you win this tournament." Belly laughs aplenty ensued.

Tran is not the Man

Certainly not this year anyhow, as Jimmy Tran has just been eliminated from this $1,500 Pot Limit Freezeout. After limp-calling a 175 preflop raise, Jimmy raised his opponent's 400 bet on an {A-Spades}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop with {A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} before calling for a total of 4,400. Up against {Q-Spades}{6-Spades}, Tran's ace failed to stand up when the turn brought the {3-Spades}, followed by an academic {9-Diamonds} river.

Triple-up for Dewey

"Tony who?"
"Tony who?"
Poker legend Dewey Tomko is now on 7,000 after triumphing in a meatalicious three-way pot. All the chips flew in on a {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop with Dewey's bullets shooting down his opponents' inferior {Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and {6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Judging by Dewey's respectful reputation, we're going to need Tony Atlas with a crowbar to prise those chips off him.

JC (On The) Cross

Lee Watkinson makes it 150 utg. A gentleman in middle position calls; JC Tran in mid to late position calls too, as does the unknown gentleman in the cutoff.

The flop is {2-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {9-Spades} and it checks around to Tran who bets 500; the cutoff calls.

They both check the {6-Hearts} turn, and then it all goes crazy on the {9-Hearts} river - Tran bets 1500, but lays it down when the cutoff goes all in for a total 4900.

Tran must have had a pretty good run of it until that hand, though, as he's now on 3300.

Tantastic

A late arrival to today's event is a tantastic Layne Flack, fresh off a week on the golf course in Hawaii and consequently boasting the most impressive of tans that any pale-faced Brit would be envious of. "I just can't pull myself off the golf course," confessed 'Back to Back' Flack.

Moments later he turned to his neighbour and asked, "What's the game?"

Out Already

Isaac Haxton is OUT.

Haxton made it 150 from the cutoff and an unknown gent in the small blind called.

Haxton bet 250 on the J-7-3, two heart flop, and the small blind check-raised to 750. Haxton re-raises the pot and the small blind goes all in for just 525 more. Haxton calls, obviously, and is probably pleased to see that his A-K is good - but his opponent is holding {A-Hearts} {6-Hearts} and another heart on the turn sends Haxton to the rail.

Also OUT is John Cernuto - his opponent rivered a flush and showed it; Cernuto just mucked and made his exit.
