The Power of Position

Michael Guzzardi raised to 45,000 from the hijack seat, Ted Forrest called from the cutoff, and everyone else folded.

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{A-Hearts}. Guzzardi didn't take long to bet 75,000. Forrest thought a bit, then called.

The turn was the {8-Spades}. Guzzardi stared at the board for a moment, then checked. Forrest waved with hand, saying he was betting the pot -- 264,000. Guzzardi laid it down.

The Last Three Hands

1. Kyle Kloeckner bet 48,000 from the hijack, and claimed the blinds.

2. Dario Alioto bet 45,000 from UTG+1, Layne Flack called from the cutoff, and the others got out of the way.

The flop came {A-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Spades}. Both checked. The turn was the {5-Diamonds}. Both checked again. The river was the {K-Hearts}. Check-check again. Flack showed 9-8-6-5 for two pair, good enough to take the pot.

3. Jacobo Fernandez raised to 45,000 from late position, Frank Vizza called from the small blind, and Dario Alioto also called from the big blind.

The flop came {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Alioto bet 80,000 (about two-thirds the pot), and the others folded.

Cagey Start

On the whole it’s been a cagey start so far. Only two hands of significance so far and only one of those went to show-down, the other being folded to a reraise all in. This is a WSOP final table though and even the hardened professionals will take a while to settle down.

Chopped Pot

Frank Vizza and Kyle Kloeckner limped, Layne Flack called from the small blind, and Michael Guzzardi checked.

All four checked the {Q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop. The turn was the {2-Clubs}. It checked to Vizza who bet 45,000 and only Kloeckner called. The river was the {J-Clubs}. Both checked.

Both had made king-high straights, and chopped the pot.

Another Small One for Vizza

Ted Forrest limped from UTG+1, then Frank Vizza raised to 72,000. Layne Flack called the raise and it folded back around to Forrest who let it go.

The flop came {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. Flack quickly checked, and Vizza checked behind. The turn was the {A-Clubs}. Flack checked, Vizza bet 125,000, and Flack folded.

Fernandez Finagles Five-Way Flop

Layne Flack limped, Ted Forrest raised to 32,000, Dario Alioto called, Kyle Kloeckner called from the small blind, Jacobo Fernandez called from the big blind, and Flack called as well. Five to the flop.

The flop came single-suited -- {5-Spades}{7-Spades}{K-Spades}. It checked to Forrest who bet out 150,000 (almost the size of the pot). It folded to Fernandez who took his time deliberating what to do. He finally announced he was reraising all in for 269,000 total. Flack folded and the action was back on Forrest.

Forrest quickly folded, and Fernandez took the pot. That bumped Fernandez up to 578,000, and Forrest down to 567,000.

Vizza Takes a Few from Kloeckner

Frank Vizza limped from the hijack seat, Daniel Makowsky folded in the small blind, and Kyle Kloeckner checked his option from the big blind.

The flop came {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Kloeckner checked, Vizza bet 35,000, and Kloeckner called. The turn was the {A-Diamonds}. Kloeckner again checked, Vizza bet 100,000. Kloeckner grinned, looking over at Vizza, then folded.

Flack Takes One

Jacobo Fernandez raised to 48,000 from middle position, Layne Flack and Michael Guzzardi called behind him, and everyone else folded.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. Fernandez checked, Flack bet 120,000, and Guzzardi folded. Fernandez rechecked his cards, then folded, giving Flack the pot.

Cautious Start

The first three hands:

1. After some preflop betting, the flop came {J-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{K-Diamonds}, and Kyle Kloeckner bet out, claiming the pot.

2. Michael Guzzardi bet 45,000 from the cutoff and took the blinds.

3. Layne Flack raised to 45,000 from the hijack seat and took the blinds.
