Kerbel and Hunt Go To War

A tough day just got tougher for Jay Kerbel. Just as we got back to his table, we saw him involved in a four-way pot with Brandon Leeds, Thomas Hunt III (again) and Sandra Taylor. Taylor and Leeds were both all in and about 25,000 chips were in the pot after fifth street. The boards read:

Leeds: x-x / {5-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {3-Clubs}
Kerbel: x-x / {2-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {J-Clubs}
Hunt: x-x / {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {9-Clubs}
Taylor: x-x / {3-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {5-Hearts}

Sixth street came {7-Hearts} to Leeds, {K-Diamonds} to Kerbel, {A-Clubs} to Hunt and {A-Spades} to Taylor. Kerbel and Hunt checked the side pot. On the river, Kerbel checked to Hunt, then raised after Hunt bet. Hunt made the call.

For the side pot, Kerbel opened {J-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} for a full house deuces full of jacks, and no low. Hunt opened {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {Q-Spades} for a bigger full house, nines full of queens, and no low. He scooped the side pot.

For the main pot, Leeds mucked his hand. Taylor opened {4-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} to make the nut low, 5-4-3-2-A to take the low half of the main pot. Hunt's full house took the high half of the main pot.

Leeds was eliminated on the hand. Kerbel is down to 13,500 chips after starting the day near the top of the leaderboard. Hunt has surged to about 66,000.

Not Poker for Advanced Players

David Sklansky and Mickey Seagle were involved in a pot that went to the river. After the final round of betting, Sklansky got the low half of the pot and Seagle got the high half of the pot. As the dealer split the chips in the pot, there was one extra purple (T500) chip and one extra gray (T100) chip. The dealer threw those extra chips to Seagle and said "Give him 300," pointing at Sklansky.

This threw the entire table into confusion. "You can't do that," said Sklansky. "This is poker for laymen. You have to chop the pot in the middle." It was eventually sorted out, and Sklansky got the proper amount of chips.
