Arieh Returning to Low Earth Orbit

Josh Arieh and Kido Pham are taking turns blind raising (they call it "straddling") on Brasilia #5. Arieh gave back another 50,000 chips when he raised to 13,000 preflop, Julian Powell reraised to 41,500 and Arieh called. The {4-Clubs} {2-Spades} {8-Spades} flop gave Powell a gutshot and an overpair with his {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}, which he bet all in. Arieh called with {2-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {k-Spades}. The turn popped {7-Hearts} and the river {A-Clubs}, making Powell a set of aces.

Applause

Scattered applause just broke out on Brasilia #5. We assume that means the bubble has burst. We'll have the hand, and the bubble boy, shortly.

Bubble Boy

Action for this hand was folded around to the blinds, where Magnus Petersson opened with a raise to 15,000. John D'Agostino made it 30,000, and Petersson moved all in having Dags covered. He made the call, and the cards were turned up:

Petersson: {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {7-Diamonds}
D'Agostino: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}

Petersson was well-behind and needed help to avoid being crippled right on the money bubble. Help found him in a big way, as the flop rolled out {7-Spades} {7-Clubs} {2-Spades}. Now it was D'Agostino behind, and in danger of being knocked out on the bubble. The turn and river came {4-Hearts} and {8-Clubs} respectively, useless cards for Dags. In his words, there's "No shame in finishing 37th," and that's exactly what has happened to our bubble boy, John D'Agostino.

Bubble Burst

With the bursting of the bubble, players have combined into four tables, and the tournament is being dealt normally once again.

Nikolay Evdakov Extends His Own Record

Nikolay Evdakoc

Nikolay Evdakov has made the money -- again. This is his 10th cash at this year's World Series of Poker, extending a record he set just two days ago. Prior to this year, the record of eight cashes in a single year was shared by four people: Humberto Brenes, Phil Hellmuth, Chad Brown, and Michael Binger.

Evdakov has not yet made a final table at this year's WSOP. He's going to need to chip up quickly if he expects to do it in this event.

Flopped Flush = Eliminated

Eric Cloutier has just been eliminated by Guillaume Patry. The two men got it all in on the flop, with Patry having Cloutier covered. The board showed {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}

Patry: {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}
Cloutier: {5-Spades} {7-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}

Both players flopped the flush with a redraw to a straight flush. In Patry's case, he was one card away from the royal. They got all their money in, and Patry's hand held up to be the winner; he knocks Cloutier from the field.

Hollink's Turn

The short stacks are taking turns doubling up through Josh Arieh. All day yesterday, and all day today prior to dinner, Arieh could do no wrong. Now he can't seem to do anything right.

After Arieh limped preflop, Rob Hollink raised to 27,000. Arieh called to see a flop of {A-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}. Arieh checked to Hollink, who pushed his last 18,000 in. Arieh made the call.

Arieh: {J-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {6-Clubs}
Hollink: {A-Spades} {K-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {9-Diamonds}

The turn {7-Spades} and river {4-Hearts} changed nothing. Hollink's hand held up, and he doubled to 110,000.

David vs. David

In the battle of the Davids, Singer and Williams, Williams won this round. Singer limped from under the gun, then called Williams' middle-position raise to 27,000. Singer bet enough to put Williams all in, about 40,000, on a flop of {Q-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {6-Hearts}. Williams made the call.

Singer: {K-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}
Williams: {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {6-Diamonds}

Williams made top two pair and the nut flush draw, a big favorite over Singer's pair of sevens and non-nut flush draw. The dealer peeled off the {Q-Clubs} turn, making Wililams a full house. The river {5-Hearts} was irrelevant.

After the hand, Williams moved up to 138,000 in chips and Singer moved into severe short stack territory with 53,000.

Recent Eliminations

David Singer Eliminated
David Singer Eliminated
David Singer and Jorge Arias were both eliminated from the tournament. Singer, recently crippled, bet all in on the river with the board showing {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}. As soon as Stephen Ladowsky called, Singer knew he was beaten. Ladowsky showed {7-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {8-Spades} {9-Hearts} for the turned straight. Singer just mucked and went to collect his payout slip.

Arias was all in preflop for 28,000 and got three callers. One of them, David Benefield, bet 60,000 on the {10-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} flop, folding everyone else. He was in there with {10-Clubs} {10-Spades} {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds}, far better than Arias' {9-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {7-Spades} {5-Spades}. The turn and river blanked out.

Benefield now has 250,000; Ladowsky has 212,000; and Singer and Arias each earn $25,069.
