The Dragon Master?

The "red" section of the Amazon Room, normally the cash-game area, is used for a short while today for part of the large crowd in this event. Seated here, among many others, are Dave "The Dragon" Pham and Men "The Master" Nguyen.

The Kat's Meow

On a flop of {9-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, facing a raise of 1,100 from Kathy Liebert, a player on the button went into the tank.

"You left me with few options," the player said.

"Fold, call or move in," said Liebert wryly.

The player chose the latter, showing {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}, behind Liebert's {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

The {9-Spades} on the turn and the {10-Clubs} on the river were no help to Liebert's opponent and the "Poker Kat" moved up to 6,100.

Chris Moneymaker Involved Early

In late position and short-stacked, Chris Moneymaker moved his last 775 into the middle and picked up a caller from UTG. The showdown had Moneymaker holding {3-Spades} {3-Hearts} against his opponent's {A-Hearts} {A-Spades} .

Moneymaker didn't stay behind long as the flop came {6-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} , with the set showing in the door. The turn and river improved Moneymaker to a full house as they came {7-Hearts} {7-Clubs}, respectively.

A few hands later Moneymaker was able to gain more chips as his busted flush draw was still good enough to scoop another pot.

He is now up to around the starting stack of 3,000 after being very short-stacked.

Tilly Bounds Up the Board

Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly just knocked out a player, increasing her stack to about 6,500.

A player in middle position went all in for his last 900 and was called by the cutoff and Tilly in the small blind.

After the flop came {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, Tilly went all in and the cutoff folded.

Tilly turned over {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} and the middle-position player showed {a-Spades}{4-Spades}. The board bricked out with the {2-Clubs} and {j-Hearts} and the player was eliminated.

Micon Rising

From the small blind, Bryan Micon mixed it up with a middle-position player. The flop came {5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{K-Diamonds}, the turn the {2-Hearts}, and after the {6-Hearts} river, his opponent bet 1,300. Micon said, "Might be a short day for me," before making the call, which was a good one, as his {K-Spades}{10-Hearts} was best.

"Could be a long day for me," he said, raking in a healthy pot.

Esfandiari Survives All-in

Antonio Esfandiari survived an early all-in to jump up to 4,500, leaving another player at his table crippled. With Esfandiari in the small blind, a late-position player made it 200, and the button and Esfandiari both called.

After a {K-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop, the original raiser checked, the button bet 400, and Esfandiari committed himself by raising to 1,600. The initial raiser called, though the button folded to Esfandiari's raise.

Esfandiari pushed in his last 525 after the {10-Hearts} turn, and was called again. Both players improved on the {8-Spades} river, but Esfandiari still had the better two pair, showing {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} to his opponent's {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

Humberto Straightens His Opponent Out

On a flop of {8-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} , Humberto Brenes got his last remaing 1700 into the middle. Another player holding {8-?} {4-?} looked Humberto Brenes up--he had {5-?} {5-?} . The turn came {5-Clubs}, giving Humberto a full house and the lead. The river came {7-Spades}, but the straight was not enough as Humberto scooped the pot and is now around 4800.
