Limit Hold'em Shootout Starts at Noon

The lengthy preliminary event phase of the 2008 World Series of Poker sends off its final start at noon today -- it's Event 53, the two-day $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout. The event will be capped at 720 players (nine per table), and will consist of three "shootout" rounds, wherein each table within each round is in itself a single-table tournament, with the single winner at each table moving on to the next round.

The first two of three rounds will be held today, with the possibility of second-round action stretching well into the night. Last year, this event was won by Ram Vaswani, who emerged from a capped 720-player field to win $217,438.

"How much can I bet?"

There has been a few tables around the room asking exactly how to play limit hold'em. The biggest question being asked is how the betting works. Some players are unsure of what to bet and how much they can raise, etc.

The tournament staff informed everyone that the second round of the shootout will begin at 10:00 PM local time. Round two will then play for four rounds before the day ends and we recommence tomorrow at 2:00 PM.

Musical Chairs

As players still arrive to the tournament area and locate their seat, some of them have been finding that it's already occupied. The players seem really confused as to why someone could already be in their assigned seat playing the tournament. The floor staff have had to move a handful of players to new seats because of this and are being questioned by the players at the table because this is supposed to be a shootout event. The staff has informed everyone that they need to get everyone in the right seats.
