An Understandable Distraction

A mild pandemonium just broke out in the area adjacent to the Milwaukee's Best Final Table area here in the corner of the giant Amazon Room. At first it was unclear as to what caused the uproar, but it soon became clear...the Belmont Stakes. It's no secret that a gambler's passions go well beyond poker. Billiards, sports betting, and or course, the occasional bet on a horse race are all part of the typical gamber's income. In case you were wondering, Da' Tara wins the Belmont Stakes, preventing Big Brown from becoming the first horse in 30 years to win the Triple Crown.

Anatoly Shilyuk has the button in Seat 5. John Conkright raises to 35,000 from under the gun. Shilyuk makes the call before the big blind, Devin Porter, moves all in for a total of 336,000. Conkright glances to his left at Shilyuk, clearly concerned about what hand Shilyuk might be holding to have called the initial raise. He follows that with a glance at Porter, the all-in player, makes a pained face and then shakes his head slightly before making the call. He has Porter covered. Shilyuk folds and the hands are opened:

Porter: {J-Hearts} {J-Spades}

A board of {5-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades} {J-Clubs} makes a set of jacks for Porter. He doubles up at John Conkright's expense.

After about 20 seconds, he declares "I'm all in." Conkright has Templeton covered so it would be Templeton all in should he make the call. Templeton thinks the better of it however and folds his hand. John Conkrright wins the pot.
