Mortensen Cracks

These players have been playing some very intense, high level poker over the last couple of hours. We may have just seen our first cracks appearing as the ultra-aggressive Phil Ivey and Carlos Mortensen just tangled in a huge Stud-8 hand.

Mortensen completed and Ivey made the call on third street. Ivey then led out on fourth and Mortensen made the call. Fifth street saw Ivey lead again and this time Mortensen raised. Ivey paused for a moment and made the call. On sixth street both players checked before Ivey fired out a bet on the river. Mortensen quickly raised and Ivey made a fairly casual, quick call.

With all the action you'd expect to be shown two monster boards. Here's what we saw:

Mortensen: (X-X-X) {7-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}
Ivey: ({9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}) {8-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}

Mortensen tapped the table in resignation once called and Ivey revealed his pair of nines. Mortensen stood and re-checked his cards once more but couldn't find a hand to beat him and mucked his cards.

A huge swing in Ivey's direction sees him move up to nearly two million chips, with Mortensen now on life support.
