Slim Sent Packing

Amarillo Slim in happier times
Amarillo Slim in happier times
Amarillo Slim has just been eliminated from the tournament.

We are unsure exactly what happened, but we were told by his table that Slim was short and pushed holding {A-?}{Q-?} and lost to an opponent's {K-?}{10-?}.

Wooka Kim Crippled

Wooka Kim
Wooka Kim
Wooka Kim travels the globe playing poker, and spends most of her time playing the Asian tournament poker circuit.

However, if she is to make a name here in Las Vegas, she'll have a lot of work to do if it's today.

Kim was recently left crippled when her {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} failed to improve against an opponent's {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} when the board ran out {5-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} to see her left with only 1,250 in chips.

November Nine

Battling hard
Battling hard
With every member of the November Nine making an appearance at this year's series, we have found four in today's field.

Dennis Phillips (2,800) and Ivan Demidov (1,700) are grinding the short stack while Kelly Kim (7,100) and Ylon Schwartz (6,200) are seating fairly comfortably.

Recent Arrivals

Players are still registering for this event, and most recently Erica Schoenberg, Steve Sung, Gary Benson and Jean-Robert Bellande have all taken up their seat.

With registration opened until the start of the third level, who knows who else may wonder into the Rio for Event 28!

Good Fold For Tran?

Theo Tran in action
Theo Tran in action
With the board reading {7-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, Theo Tran led out for 600.

His opponent then moved all in for 3,000 to Tran into the tank as he mulled over his decision. After several minutes of deliberation Tran folded his {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} face up.

His opponent flashed the {2-Hearts} when he raked in the pot, but Tran still sits with a better then average 4,900 in chips.

Tran Doubles Todd

JC Tran has been cut back down to 6,200 after recently doubling up Eugene Todd.

All the money went in on the {A-?}{Q-?}{5-?} flop to see Todd out in front holding a set of Queens. Tran still had outs holding {A-?}{Q-?}, but would see none of them fall.

After the hand Todd began berating Tran stating that he was outplayed.

Tran then started up a conversation regarding WSOP bracelets with John Juanda which seemed to quiet down the Brooklyn-bred Todd.

BananaThief Slips On His Own Peel

Australian young gun Aleks 'BananaThief' Brkovic has been sent to the rail.

Getting all his chips into the pot on a nine-high board, Brkovic was in great shape to double holding {A-?}{9-?} to his opponent's {9-?}{8-?}.

Fading the turn, the unfortunate eight would land on the river to see Brkovic exit to the rail just short of the first break.

One Year On

All around the Rio there are TV's for both the tournament clock and general TV.

Mostly used for recent sporting events a player in the Orange section jumped up, went over to the TV and fiddled round with the buttons.

Five channels later he had switched it to the 2008 Main Event coverage featuring the November Nine.

Although this may seem meaningless, Ivan Demidov has his back to the screen, and on numerous occasions has stood up to check out the coverage.

Maybe he has never seen it or maybe has watched it countless times, Demidov would sure love to match his breakout performance at this year's WSOP!

Gank Time!

With around 600 in the pot on the {K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{J-Clubs} flop Brett 'gank' Jungblut check-raised his opponent's 350-chip bet to 800 out of the small blind.

His opponent called, and when the {6-Clubs} fell on the turn Jungblut fired for 1,025 with his opponent calling once again.

The river fell the {6-Diamonds} and Jungblet moved all in for his last 2,000 with his opponent making the call. Jungblet tabled his {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for a flopped straight, and the double as he moved to 8,300.
