Welcome to the Ocho

Welcome to Event No. 42, the $2,500 Mixed Game event, a.k.a. the "8-Game" event in which players will be rotating between Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw, Limit Hold’em, Omaha Hi/Lo Eight-or-Better, Razz, Seven-Card Stud, Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo Eight-or-Better, No-Limit Hold’em, and Pot-Limit Omaha.

The dealers have arrived here in the back right quadrant of the Brasilia Room and are starting to remove extra chairs from the tables to prepare for the start of tonight's event.

Still about a half-hour until those dealers begin dealing the first hands of Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw. See you back here at 5 p.m. local time for the start of today's action.

Getting Close

Word is there is a signifcant line at the registration desk for today's event. Tournament officials do not seem to be in a great hurry to begin the tournament at the moment, so we may be looking at a brief delay before the first hands are dealt.

The board currently shows 193 entrants, though that number should be climbing over the next couple of hours.

Shuffle Up and Deal!

We're underway!

Players are starting with 7,500 chips. They will begin by playing six-handed for the first two levels of today's event. When we reach Level 3, the tourney will switch to eight-handed; however, for the 2-7 Triple Draw hands, two players will take turns sitting out (those sitting in the two seats to the left of the big, or UTG & UTG+1).

The Eight-Legged Monster of WSOP Events

"We need a structure sheet at every table!"

So said Tournament Director Jack Effel just now while passing through Event No. 42. The mixed event presents special challenges to players, for sure, but keeps dealers on their toes as well.

For all of the different antes, blinds, bring-ins, completion bets, and limits for each game/level, consult that blue bar marking the beginning of a level, or take a look under the "Betting Structure" tab.

Grizzle Grins

Sam Grizzle and Anthony Rivera are both here. Currently their table is playing five-handed.

"This is too good to be true," said Grizzle. "Short-handed... hell, I might have to bust out the first level."

"You must be dreaming," said Rivera.

"Heh, if I was really dreaming then Jean-Robert [Bellande] would be here," cracked Grizzle.

Who's Here?

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu
A lot of familiar faces here for Event No. 42, including Allen Kessler, Bryan Micon, Clonie Gowen, Daniel Negreanu, Scott Clements, Maria Ho, and Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri.

Greg Mueller and James Van Alstyne are here, looking for their second WSOP bracelets of the summer. And Jeffrey Lisandro is here as well, in search of his third bracelet in 2009.

A Lousy Low

"I just got dealt Broadway," said Dan Shak with a smile, referring to a recently completed 2-7 Triple Draw hand. "Ace-King-Queen-Jack-Ten."

Needless to say, Shak threw that one away.

Who's Not Here?

Shannon Elizabeth

Players continue to stream in and take seats -- indeed, most of the tables that were reserved for this event here in the back of the Brasilia Room are rapidly filling up.

Brock Parker, Jeff Madsen, Mike Matusow, Jon Turner, Mike Baxter, Matt Woodward, and Bob Laurie are all here.

Oh, and it's no dream, Sam Grizzle... Jean-Robert Bellande is here, too. For real.
