Haven't I Seen You Somewhere Before?
It's not what you're thinking. Dennis Phillips -- who finished Day 1c with an above-average stack of 62,325 -- did not manage to sneak in to play a second Day One.
Rather it is Phillips' friend, Bryan Swift, who's here to try and follow in the St. Louis account manager's footsteps and make the November Nine. We'll keep an eye on Swift's progress as the day proceeds.
Oh, and the autograph on Swift's cap? Dennis Phillips, of course.
How Many Tens Does J.C. Tran Have?
flop checked around to J.C. Tran in the cutoff, who bet 525. He got one caller in the form of the gent in the big blind.Mr. Big Blind checked the
turn, and Tran bet 1,300. "Are you serious?" asked Mr. Big Blind; Tran was, and he folded.Tran told Mr. Big Blind he could see one of his hole cards, and allowed him to choose. He turned over a ten.
Over In The Miranda Room
David Benefield, Vivek Rajkumar and Jordan Morgan are representing the online community, while Adam Schoenfeld, Shawn Sheikhan, Antonio Esfandiari, Paul Snead, Farzad Bonyadi and Michael Binger have also taken their seats.
Film and TV star Lou Diamond Phillips is also in the field along with Australian's Jimmy Siu, Rob Campbell and Chris Chronis. Chip Me Up players Andrew Barter, Scott Neuman and David Lewis are also in attendance.
However it is the ladies that are out in force for the predominately male event with Mimi Tran, Lisa Parsons, Shannon Elizabeth, Clonie Gowen, Lynette Chan, Esther Taylor and Lisa Hamilton all taking on the blokes.
Another One Bites the Dust
Nevertheless we've had a second exit already -- some poor gent got all 30,000 of those lovely chips in when he flopped top set, but his opponent had flopped a straight which held up down the turn and river.
It's Only Phil Ivey
Not too far away on the rail are Ivey's #1 fans, the older couple that has been railing him for a few years now. The couple is decked out in Ivey shirts and patches to support their favorite player. Ivey was very happy to see them on the rail and hopped up from his seat to run over and greet them with a big hug and handshake.
Back at his table, the younger player to Phil's right is texting on his phone nonstop. He keeps looking at Ivey on his left with a look of shock strewn across his face. Our guess is that he's telling anyone and everyone in his phone book that he's seated next to one of the greats.
A Couple of Recent Bracelet Winners
Angel Guillen picked up over $500,000 when he took down Event #32: $2,000 No Limit Hold'em event, while Brian Lemke captured the gold and nearly $700,000 in Event #15: $5,000 No Limit Hold'em. Lemke's win in particular touched the hearts of many as he dedicated it to his late cousin, popular poker media personality Justin Shronk.
Both bracelet winners will be looking to continue their good form here today.
Beck And Call
