LarsLuzak in the House

Sami "LarsLuzak" Kelopuro reraised to 1,200 after a player made to 400 to go from the cutoff seat. Kelopuro was in the small blind. The player made the call.

The flop came down {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {5-Hearts} and Kelopuro fired a bet of 1,400. His opponent leaned forward in his chair to get a closer look at the board. He then sat back down and double checked his cards. Finally, he mucked his hand and Kelopuro raked in the chips.

"Hmm... looks like he's got squadoosh"
"Hmm... looks like he's got squadoosh"
While the seasoned pros have all been here before, for the first-timers (and there are many) this is undoubtedly destined to be a most memorable day of poker, one that will surely provide many stories down the road. It is the biggest poker tournament in the world, after all. Enough to make one's head spin, for sure.

Some who are here are already actively working on chronicling the event for future consultation.

As he has done each day thus far during the Main Event, ESPN color commentator Norman Chad is making the rounds, passing in between the tables and chatting with players. Just saw three players get up and ask Chad for an autograph. In fact, one of the three even asked your humble reporter to snap a photo of him and the television personality standing beside his table. Glad to help with the record-keeping.

Salley Sallies; Gets Beaten Down

A bad start followed by a bit of a recovery for John Salley, as he called a 750 bet on the turn of a {9-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {6-Clubs} board with around 2,000 already in the pot.

Both players checked the {8-Diamonds} river, and Salley turned over {10-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} for a straight -- his opponent had turned a bluff into a very small straight on the river with {A-Spades} {5-Diamonds}, but it wasn't good enough, and Salley's straight took the pot to put him up to 27,000.

Salley on 27,000.

Sorry, But You WON'T Be At the Feature Table

According to one member of the ESPN camera crew, Phil Ivey's table (table #90 in the orange section) was supposed to be the feature table to start the day. Everyone at the table was not only going to get a chance to play at the feature table with one of the greatest players in the game, but they'd also be lined up to receive about $10,000 in sponsorship money from various companies. Ivey didn't want to be seated at the feature table and he got his wish. Everyone at the table was pretty irritated at this decision. This was all according to the camera crew and we'll have to wait and see if any of the players go after Ivey a little bit more throughout the day.

Lemke Chips Up

We caught the action on a board of {8-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs} with Brian Lemke firing a bet of 1,175 from the button. His opponent in the small blind made the call, before leading out for 1,200 on the {8-Hearts} river.

Lemke sighed and made the call with his {K-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. It was good as his opponent mucked. Lemke is at 32,000 chips.

Morgan Chipping Up Early

Jordan Morgan has been fairly active during the first level, now chipping up to over 38,000 after starting strong early.

With a board reading {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{Q-Spades}, and around 7,000 in the pot, Morgan fired out a bet of 6,100 into his opponent.

Thinking long and hard for over three minutes, his opponent eventually folded to see Morgan take down yet another pot.

Sheikhan Slips

Shawn Sheikhan in action

Shawn Sheikhan opened with a raise to 250, and found three callers including Benjamin Kang.

The flop fell down {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, and the action was checked round to the player in the cutoff who led out with a 1,500-chip bet.

Sheikhan called while both the remaining players, including Kang, folded to see the {7-Spades} fall on the turn and a check from Sheikhan follow.

Now met with a 3,000-chip bet, Sheikhan made the call before check-folding when the {Q-Diamonds} fell on the river followed by a 7,000-chip bet by his opponent.

After chipping up early, Sheikhan has now slipped to 22,500 in chips.

You Don't Get Nothing For Frie

Adam Friedman raised to 250 and received a call from the cutoff, only for the small blind to make it 1,200 to go. Friedman and Mr. Cutoff both called, and they saw a flop.

Flop: {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}

The small blind now checked and so did Friedman. Mr. Cutoff now bet 2,000 and Mr. Small Blind gave it up, but Friedman called once more.

Friedman checked again on the {3-Spades} turn -- but this time he folded when Mr. Cutoff bet 3,500.

Friedman down to 17,000 already.

Demidov Off to Rocky Start

Folded to him, 2008 Main Event runner-up Ivan Demidov opens with a button raise to 300, only the big blind would come along.

The flop would bring {6-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {10-Hearts} . The big blind check-raised Demidov's continuation bet of 450 to 1500 total. Demidov made the call. The turn fell the {8-Hearts} . Once again Mr. Big Blind would check it over to Ivan, who then bet 2,325, call. River {2-Clubs}. After another check, Demidov would think it over for a minute before betting 5,000. The big blind insta-called.

Demidov tables {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} , but his opponent quickly slammed his {6-Hearts} {2-Hearts} down on the table in all its glory (maybe it was a little flashy since the ESPN cameras were filming).

Ivan is down to 17,100.
