Esfandiari Chips Up

Antonio Esfandiari and his now trademark visor
Antonio Esfandiari and his now trademark visor
With a raise to 300 and a call before him, Antonio Esfandiari made the call from the button.

On the flop of {J-Spades}{2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} the original raiser checked, before the caller made it 1,100 to go. Esfandiari put in a raise to 3,400 to take the pot down and climb to 32,400.

With eight WSOP cashes to his name, but no Main Event one to his name, Esfandiari will be looking at making 2009 his year to break his drought.

Lee's Opponent Mucks QQ

An under-the-gun player made it 300 to go before Bernard Lee called from middle position. The flop came down {J-?} {8-?} {5-?} and both players checked.

The turn brought a {2-?} and the first player bet 1,000. Lee raised to 2,800 and his opponent called. The river was a {5-?} and after his opponent checked, Lee fired a bet of 3,350. His opponent tanks and then folds {Q-?} {Q-?} face up.

Lee - 32,000

Minieri Shrinks to Nothing

It turns out that Dario Minieri could get smaller after all -- his stack has now in fact dwindled to absolutely nothing, after getting his last chips in with top pair on the flop against his opponent's flush draw. The flush duly came in, and Minieri duly headed back to the Shire, without that one bracelet to rule them all.

Minieri: {Q-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}
Mr. Opponent: {9-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}

Board: {4-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}

Nice Turn for Rousso

Vanessa Rousso
Vanessa Rousso
Five players had limped to see a flop come {4-Hearts}{A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. None bit. The turn was the {5-Clubs}, and this time when it checked to Vanessa Rousso decided she'd toss out four (100) dark blue chips. With various degrees of deliberation, all of her opponents folded.

"I liked that turn guys," said Rousso as she flipped over her {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and dragged the small pot. She's up at 34,500 now.

Suck, Re-Suck For Schulman

Nick Schulman opened to 250 from the cutoff and found two callers including Kenny Tran out of the small blind.

The flop of {10-Spades}{J-Hearts}{7-Hearts} was checked round to see the {6-Hearts} fall on the turn. Tran checked, Schulman fired 600 and his opponent on the button made the call before Tran passed.

When the river landed the {J-Spades} Schulman's 1,200-chip bet was called by his opponent holding {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}.

Schulman however tabled his {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} for a bigger two-pair after the river paired the board to see him moved back over starting stack.

Super Suckout

Michael Alezrah was all in with {10-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} against his opponent's {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs}. The flop came down {J-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {6-Hearts}, keeping the aces in the lead. The turn brought the {9-Clubs} and Alezrah picked up some straight and flush outs. Wait -- most of his flush outs were no good because his opponent held the {A-Clubs}.

Then, just like that, the river was one of the two clubs that could help him, the {7-Clubs}! Alezrah pulled a four-card straight flush using his {10-Clubs} and scooped the pot to double up.

Tran Walks Into The Nuts

Mimi Tran called a raise of 250 from out of the small blind before check-calling 400 on the flop of {6-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

When the {9-Clubs} fell on the turn, Tran checked to her opponent to see him fire 400. Tran opted not to call, but to check-raise to 1,200. Her opponent however was having none of it and reraised to 3,200 total with Tran making the call.

The river landed the {3-Clubs} and Tran checked, only to see her opponent move all in for his last 3,825.

Tran insta-called, and then insta-mucked when shown the nuts by her opponent holding {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} to see her slip to 22,100 in chips.

Wrestling Arena

Joe Arena is on around 60,000 after taking down a massive three-way pot that saw one opponent all in on the turn of the {6-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {A-Spades} board and both Arena and the very lovely Torrie Wilson (of sports entertainment fame!) calling.

Wilson gave it up to a 5,000 bet from Arena on the {10-Clubs} river, though, and Arena turned over pocket sevens for a set. Mr. All In mucked, and Arena raked in the chips.

Talk About a Cold Deck!

Table 45 just recalled to us a very surreal hand.

Under the gun opened with a raise. A player in early position then put in a 3-bet before the the button put in yet another reraise. The deep starting stacks allowed the UTG player to 5-bet before finally the EP player moved all in!

The button couldn't believe the carnage that was going down as he said he folded {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}. The UTG player also tabled {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and found himself in one of the worst preflop spots possible as his opponent revealed {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}.

Not only had the king outs gone for the UTG player, but both players had the same suits so he also a flush would not help either. With only a straight to save him, the board bricked out rather anticlimactically and the aces held to scoop the pot.

Peyton's Place Just Got Higher

"All in and a call!"

There'd been a raise, a reraise, and another reraise. Then the all in. And then the call. Dennis Peyton had {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}, and his opponent {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Unfortunately for Peyton's opponent, another heart wouldn't help matters, as Peyton had the ace. The turn was the {10-Clubs} and the river the {5-Clubs}, and Peyton shook his foe's hand as he left the scene.

Peyton is up to 64,000 now -- one of our bigger stacks here in the early going.
