Jesper Jets Ahead

Jesper Hougaard, winner of both a WSOP bracelet and a WSOPE bracelet in 2008, had tangled with Philip Starner earlier in the day.

In one of the first hands of the level, Hougaard had opened with a raise to 3,200 from the hijack, and Starner called from the button. The flop came {K-Spades}{9-Clubs}{K-Clubs} and both checked. The turn was the {7-Clubs}, Hougaard bet 4,500, and Starner called. The river brought the {A-Diamonds}. Hougaard checked, Starner bet 8,000, and after a long pause Hougaard let it go.

Just now came another hand involving the two. After a {Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop, Starner had bet, Hougaard raised from the button, Starner reraised 13,500 more, then Hougaard went ahead and repopped it to 100,000 -- more than what Starner had left behind. Starner thought a bit, then called. Hougaard flipped over {8-Spades} {8-Clubs}. "That's good," said Starner, turning over {9-Spades}{7-Spades}.

The turn was the {10-Hearts} and the river the {2-Hearts}, and Starner is out. Hougaard is now up to 245,000.
