Hilarious Double-Up for Awada

You won't see many of these kinds of double-ups: Joe Awada led out for 11,500 on the turn of a {8-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {4-Spades} board. Ramin Henke moved all in but was snap-called by Awada with {A-Clubs} {4-Clubs}. Rather than wait to see the river, Henke mucked his hand! We guess he was drawing dead and that no card would have helped him (certainly not the {7-Diamonds} that fell).

Awada's up to 108,000.

Up then Down

David Inselberg must've made a great start to the day. He's only on 18,000 now though after telling us in break that he lost with pocket tens to a player holding pocket nines and before that his pocket queens couldn't beat an opponent's ace-ten. With less than ten big blinds he going to need some help from the poker gods for a change to get back in this.

Rail Spotting

I just got chatting to Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad on the rail. The online and live poker phenomenon isn't 20 years old for a couple more months but has come out to be a part of the WSOP craziness. Without being able to play I feel she's taking that frustration out on the local shopping malls!

Watch out next year Las Vegas as it wouldn't surprise me if she's amongst the headline makers.

A Few Less Davids

Stack consolidation continues apace in the Orange Section of the Amazon Room. Recent eliminations include a pair of Davids: David Gee and David Peters.

Gee went out at the hand of Joe Parille. Parille was facing an all-in raise of 25,000 preflop from Gee. He opted to call with {A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}; Gee turned over {A-Clubs} {J-Spades}. As these things go, three-to-one is a decent edge to have but that "one time" comes more often than you'd like. It was Parille's time this hand, with a board of {4-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {2-Spades} {A-Hearts} giving him a wheel and the victory.

A few tables away, David Peters succumbed to the wildly resurgent David Baker in another preflop all-in confrontation. Baker tabled the best hand, {A-Clubs} {10-Hearts}, against the {Q-Spades} {J-Clubs} of Peters. Cue up the board: {10-Clubs} {4-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {5-Spades}. Game, set and match for Baker. Peters is out.

Baker, by the way started the day with 25,700 and is now up to about 260,000. Most impressive.

Cagey Kings

We had a three-way raised pot as we went to a {A-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} flop. The pre flop aggressor bet 7,000 when checked to him and both Peter Gould and the BB called before the action slowed right down. All three were content to check the {7-Clubs} turn and {5-Diamonds} river. Gould turned over {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts} and both opponents folded.

Ludovic Lacay giggled at seeing Gould's hand. With no three bet pre flop you can see why it's hard to put him on that hand.

Firestone on Fire

Brent Berry is the latest player to join the throng on the rail. He was all in preflop against Bobby Firestone. Brent Berry barely had the best hand, {A-?} {4-?}, against Firestone's {K-?} {Q-?}, but it was Firestone who emerged triumphant, {Q-?} {2-?} {8-?} {Q-?} {9-?}. He's over two bills now, 215,000, while Berry is out.
