Event #11: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em

Day 3 Started

Day 3

Bracelet for durrrr?
Bracelet for durrrr?

Two days ago, 2,563 players entered the Rio hoping to embark upon a bracelet quest. Today, on Day 3 of Event #11: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em, only 21 remain.

These events often attract large fields of amateurs and dreamers, making it terribly difficult for a marquee player to take it down. There is one player remaining that has everyone's attention though; Tom "durrrr" Dwan.

For the first time ever, Dwan is putting in some seriously volume at the WSOP. Yesterday he was literally two-tabling this event and the No-Limit 2-7 Lowball event (in which he has over 10,000 chips). The rumors are spiraling about how much money Dwan has in bracelet bets, but there is one thing that is certain: He wants to lock them all up today.

Standing in his way are 20 tough players who have proven throughout the past two days that they too are worthy of WSOP gold.

Marvin Rettenmaier and Scott Hamilton both sit with over 900,000 chips, and although they are shorter, Nicholas "ISpewChips" Phillips (568,000 chips), Eric "AvrilSharapova" Ladny (460,000 chips) and Jason Young (448,000 chips) all have proven track records.

The excitement is building for Day 3 and the cards are set to be in the air at 2:30 p.m. PST. Keep it locked on PokerNews.com for all your live updates of this and every event at the 2010 WSOP!

Open Those Bags

The players are mostly in their chairs, and we're just about set to go. The staff is taking care of a few bio sheets and other miscellaneous paperwork, and then we'll be off.

Don't wander too far.

That's One Way to Put It

Andy Black just wandered over to the featured table where Tom Dwan was busy winning the first pot of the day.

"You got a lot of people sh***ing all over themselves today, Tom," Black half-shouted from the rail.

We understand that Dwan has a few, shall we say, significant bracelet bets this year, and he figures to win a lot more than just first-place money if he can manage to be the last man standing today.

Welcome to the Newcomer

David Newcomer got himself all in for just about 220,000 on a flop of {J-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {Q-Spades}. Harsukhpaul Sangha looked him up with {10-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}, but he was way behind. Newcomer rolled over {4-Spades} {4-Diamonds} for the set, needing only to fade two running cards to double up.

The {8-Diamonds} on the turn was a bit of a sweat card, but a safe {6-Clubs} peeled off on the river to move Newcomer up to 466,000. Sangha is down to 620,000.

A Winter Double

Kyle Winter open-shoved for 119,000 from early position, and Tom Dwan made the flat-call. The rest of the table folded out of the way, and the cards were up with Winter at risk... and trailing:

Winter: {K-Clubs} {10-Hearts}
Dwan: {A-Diamonds} {9-Hearts}

The flop was friendly for the all-in player though, coming out {2-Spades} {10-Spades} {8-Diamonds}. The {2-Diamonds} and {2-Clubs} filled out the board, and Winter notches the early double up that he so badly needed.

He's up over 260,000 now, putting just a tiny dent in Dwan's stack.

"Jason Young is the King of Flopping Sets"

Those were the words of a spectator just after this hand.

Young and Christopher Giddings check-checked through a turned board showing {7-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}. The river {A-Clubs} drew a bet of 80,000 from Young, Giddings promptly raised to 200,000 straight, and Young made the smooth call.

Giddings: {A-Hearts} {J-Spades}
Young: {6-Spades} {6-Hearts}

That's a winning set of sixes for Young, and he's worked his stack up to about 750,000 here in the early going. Giddings has slipped to 537,000.
