Day 2, Here We Come

Good afternoon and welcome back to the $1,500 Seven Card Stud event in the Amazon Room. Yesterday we smashed last year's field for this event, and then whittled down the 408 starters to just 117 survivors - not bad for the traditionally rather lumbering pace of limit.

Nevertheless we have another long day ahead of us, as only eight players will be making it through to the final table tomorrow. In fact, only 40 of these folks are going to be getting paid at all, and we're a long way off the money yet.

Yesterday Scott Seiver emerged late in the day as dominant chip leader, and indeed there is no-one else even within spitting distance of his 63,800 stack. Nevertheless, this can be a crazy game at times and there are a clutch of big names still in who will be hoping to take a serious shot at the bracelet. Among them are Carlos Mortensen (35,600), Jean Gaspard (31,900), Cyndy Violette (21,500), Alex Kravchenko (18,400) and Sorel Mizzi (16,000).

Play is due to resume at 3pm PT, in around half an hour. Don't go anywhere.

Durrrr Down Early

Tom "durrrr" Dwan is down to his last 2,000 in chips after calling down his opponent John Regan on every street.

Dwan: (XXX) / {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Regan: ({4-Hearts}{K-Spades}{3-Clubs}) / {K-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Spades}{A-Diamonds}

Regan tabled two pair with kings up as Dwan's cards hit the muck. Regan is up to 18,500.

Smith & Lessen

Mallory Smith: (XXX) / {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{a-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Zachary Shelline: (XXX) / {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Lewis Lipsey: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}(X) / {j-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Spades}

Mallory Smith was all in on fifth street but betting continued between Lewis Lipsey and Zachary Shelline until Shelline gave it up on seventh street, Lipsey showing jacks up. Whatever Smith was holding, it couldn't beat Lipsey when he turned over a third jack at showdown, and SMith became our first casualty of the day.

First of many.

The Master Eliminated

Men Nguyen eliminated
Men Nguyen eliminated

Men "The Master" Nguyen won't be adding another bracelet to his wrist in this event after his last chips were moved into the middle, never to return.

Nguyen was drawing to a straight on seventh to try and and better his opponent's two pair, but the river bricked out and The Master was eliminated.

Friedman Fried; Monkey Hat Lives to See Another Day

Friedman with his little friend, yesterday
Friedman with his little friend, yesterday

Perry Friedman will be going no further in this event. We're not sure exactly when the last of his chips went in, but go in they did.

"Straight," he announced as he flipped his cards on seventh street, revealing a straight, seven to jack.

"Full house," announced John Womack, flipping aces full.

"Touche," said Friedman, and stood up to leave.

Although Friedman won't be going any further in this, it could be a very different story for his monkey hat - upon busting, he signed it and left it with Mr. Womack. We could yet see a lot more of the monkey hat as this tournament progresses.

Rossi Doing Double

We had a good few multitablers in the field yesterday - of those who were attempting to play two events at once, British online sicko Richard "Chufty" Ashby was the most successful, making Day 2 of this with 11,500 in chips (although he busted out of the other event he was playing).

Today a new multitabler has emerged - Esther Rossi is attempting to play both this event and the Ladies' Event over in the Pavilion Room. We'll let you know how she gets on...
