Raise the Rousso

Chino Rheem kick-started the action UTG with a raise, and was called by both Vanessa Rousso (button), and the player in the small blind.

The flop was {8-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and Rheem led out with a bet, getting called by both Rousso and the big blind.

The turn was the {a-Clubs}, and once again Rheem bet, however this time Rousso raised it up getting both the big blind and Rheem to quickly fold.

Rousso has inched up the counts to about 8,300, while Rheem is already down to under 4,000 in chips. After the hand, he asked if anyone wanted a last longer bet to help him play better.

Rousso Has Rheem Reeling

Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem

Chino Rheem is certainly igniting the action more than almost anyone we've seen in the tournament so far.

He was at it again, raising from middle position getting Vanessa Rousso (small blind), and the player in the big blind to make the call. The flop was {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, and Rousso led out with a bet. The player in the big blind folded, and Rheem came along for the ride.

When the {q-Hearts} hit on the turn, Rousso once again led out with a bet only to get raised by Rheem this time. She made the call, and the two players saw the {4-Hearts} hit on the river. Rousso, for a third straight time led out, and Rheem raised it up getting a quick call from Rousso.

Rousso tabled the {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, and Rheem announced "flush," tabling {5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} apparently thinking he had two hearts. Rousso laughed, as she scooped the pot and stacked up about 8,700. Rheem, slipped to about 2,000.

Gomes Reduced

A player in middle position raised before the flop, and Alexandre Gomes made it three bets to play. His opponent called the extra 100, and it was heads up the rest of the way.

The dealer spread out the first three cards {5-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {2-Spades}, and the unknown player check-called a bet from Gomes. On the {3-Diamonds} turn, he led out into the pot, Gomes raised to two bets, and he called.

The last card off was the {8-Clubs}, and Gomes had his final bet called. He turned up {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs}, but it was second-best. His opponent showed up {K-Clubs} {10-}, his king kicker earning him the pot and pushing Gomes down to 4,300 here in the early going.

Rafe Furst Climbs Back

We caught up with the action on the turn with the board reading {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades}. Rafe Furst, led out with a bet in the big blind, and a player in middle position called.

The two saw the {5-Hearts} hit the river, and once again Furst bet, getting a quick call from his opponent.

Furst tabled the {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}, which was good against his opponent's {10-}{7-}.

Furst is now up 5,200.

Shorr v. Makowsky

We joined a flop of {6-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} to see a heads-up pot unfold between Daniel Makowsky and Shannon Shorr. Makowsky check-called a bet there, and he did likewise on the {A-Hearts} turn and the {7-Hearts} river.

Shorr turned up the winner with {Q-Hearts} {8-Hearts}, and Makowsky could not beat his flush. That moves him down to 6,000, sliding Shorr back up to 7,700.

Speaking of Gavin...

We joined a pot involving Mr. Smith on a flop of {9-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {6-Hearts}. Smith put out a bet, and his opponent check-raised. Smith called.

Fourth street came the {8-Clubs}, and Mr. Opponent led out with a big bet. Smith raised, and his opponent called.

Fifth street was the {Q-Hearts}, and Mr. Opponent check-called one last bet from Smith. Gavin showed up {A-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} for the straight, and that pot moves him back up to 6,000 after a sluggish start.

Nice Boat, Pilgrim

We just caught the tail end of this pot as the board read {4-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {9-Diamonds}. Both Dwyte Pilgrim and Isaac Haxton had put in three bets apiece on the turn, and we picked up the action live on the last card.

Pilgrim fired out a final bet, and Haxton made a reluctant call. He was right to be reluctant; Pilgrim flipped up {8-Diamonds} {9-Spades} for the backdoor full house, and that was apparently easily good enough to win the pot.

Pilgrim - 10,100
Haxton - 5,900

Chan Can Make Two Pair

We picked up the action in this heads-up pot just as the dealer was flopping {4-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} out on board. Terrence Chan checked and called a bet before the {5-Diamonds} landed on fourth street. When the unknown player fired again, Chan raised, and his opponent called the extra bet.

The last card off was the {J-Spades}, and Chan's river bet was quickly called.

He turned up {A-Hearts} {9-Spades} for two pair, pipping his opponent's {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}. Aces up gives Chan the pot and a chip boost to 8,100.
