Welcome back to the Amazon Room at the Rio for our continued coverage of Event #24 of the 2010 World Series of Poker. The ever popular $1,000 no limit hold'em events continue to attract huge fields as 3289 players took their shot at fame and fortune over the past two days.

They have been whittled down to just 507 survivors with the top 342 players set to reach the money stage. They will be led into battle by John Tolbert who bagged up 73,900 chips, with several big name sharks still lurking in the field.

The players will be filing in to take their seats shortly, so stay tuned to PokerNews.com for all of your live updates!

A Note About Structure

On Day 1a, the entrants played until 15% of the field remained. That turned out to be 28 minutes into Level 9. Day 1b then played the exact same amount of time, so today, the combined returning group began with 32 minutes left on the clock in Level 9. They will play two more levels after that for a total of 152 minutes before taking their first 20-minute break.
After that, the schedule returns to normal for a Day 2 - two more levels before a 60-minute dinner break, followed by six levels with 20-minute breaks every two.

Of the 512 who returned, 342 get paid, so the field will go to hand-for-hand sometime before dinner.

Dwan Doubles A Shorty

Tom Dwan has doubled up a short stack in the early hands of the day. After opening to 1,625, Dwan called the all-in shove of his opponent and the cards were on their backs.

Dwan: {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} to pair up to the five and give his opponent a handy double up. Dwan is back to 29,000.

Batista Busto

Chad Batista raised from the small blind, and the big blind joined him to a {k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop. Lil' hold'em checked, then raised after the big blind bet. Then Batista's opponent moved all in, and Chad called with {k-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. The big blind's {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs} had him out-kicked, and with no help from the turn or river, Batista was on his way to the rail only a few minutes after his day began.

Huge Cooler Rockets Dasilva Ahead

Dan Dasilva started the day with a modest 16,175 in chips and I'm sure he didn't rock up today thinking that he'd be amongst the chip leaders in the first thirty minutes of play. But that's exactly what has happened after one of the more remarkable hands we've seen in some time.

It was a four-way all in that saw Dasilva grab the chips, and the cards, well, you could say it was a bit of a cooler.

Dasilva: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
Unlucky #1: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Unlucky #2: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Unlucky #3: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Fortunately for Dasilva, nobody had jacks as the board was spread {J-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Spades} and his aces hold up! After a quick calculation on our trusty abacus, we've worked out that Dasilva was actually only a 54% favorite to win that hand! He rockets up to 62,000 chips.

Ladies Good To Durrrr

Tom Dwan

With a raise to 1,500 in front, Tom "durrrr" Dwan popped it to 4,750 from the small blind. The big blind got out of the way but the original raiser committed all of his last 18,000 chips. Dwan quickly made the call.

Dwan: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Opponent: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

Dwan's queens held up on the board of {6-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades} as he sends one to the rail and jumps back up to 42,000 chips.

Actually, Break Time

Contrary to what was previously announced, the players are now on a 20-minute break. They'll be back to play two more levels, have another break, play two more, and then go on dinner break.

They are coloring up the T25 green chips during the break.
