Late Arrivals

Players continue to wander onto the tournament floor. We recently spotted Phil Galfond, Jean-Robert Bellande, Pat Pezzin, Matt Savage and Nick Schulman all taking seats at tables in this event.

Schulman passed by Phil Ivey's table before and exchanged a few greetings.

"You've got those bracelet bets," said Schulman. "How'd you skip the Ladies Event?" A few players at the table laughed.

"I thought about it," said Ivey. "I'd give the money to charity. Then what could they say?"

Shorr Shown a Full House

On the flop of {K-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, three players put in two bets each. One of those players was Shannon Shorr. The turn then added the {4-Hearts} to the board and all three players checked. The river completed things with the {Q-Spades}. One player bet and only Shorr made the call. He was shown the {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades} for queens full of fours and mucked his hand, dropping down to 27,400 chips.

Two Team PokerStars Pros in Action

Chad Brown
Chad Brown

Five players saw the flop of {J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades} in a raised pot. Representing Team PokerStars Pro Cananda is Daniel Negreanu and he fired a bet. The next two players called. Chad Brown, who dons the Team PokerStars Pro USA badge, raised. The player on the button folded and then Negreanu reraised. The next player folded, the player after that called and then Brown called as well.

On the {6-Spades} turn, Negreanu checked, the next player bet, Brown called and then Negreanu called. The river was the {7-Clubs} and Negreanu checked. The next player bet, Brown folded and then Negreanu called saying, "Well, I might get the other half now."

Negreanu was shown the {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a queen-high straight and an ace-three for the low. The Team PokerStars Pro Canada member mucked his hand and didn't get either half.

Bloch Wins Without Showdown

A player in middle position raised and then Andy Bloch reraised. His opponent called. The flop came down {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and the player in middle position bet. Bloch raised and the player reraised. Bloch made the call.

The turn was the {K-Clubs} and the first player bet into Bloch. Bloch raised and his opponent called.

The river was the {K-Spades} and Bloch's opponent check-folded to a bet, giving Bloch the pretty big pot early on without a showdown. He's up to 39,000.

Friedman Chopped Up

Seven players saw a flop of {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. On the flop, Perry Friedman bet out and got a call from Sergey Altbregin. The button then raised and both Friedman and Altbregin called.

The turn was the {6-Spades} and Friedman and Altbregin checked. The button bet with Friedman and Altbregin calling. The river completed the board with the {2-Diamonds}. Friedman checked, Altbregin bet, the button called and then Friedman called.

Altbregin tabled the {K-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} for a straight to the six and a low 6-5-4-3-2. The button tabled the {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for a higher straight to the nine. The deuce on the river counterfeited Friedman's low as he held the {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} and he got scooped by both players who chopped up his money.

Despite the loss, Friedman still has 33,000 chips, which is more than what he started with.

More Tables?

For what we believe may be the first time this World Series of Poker, the initial allocation of tables for an event has proven insufficient for the field. This event started with twenty nine-handed tables allocated in the Blue Section of the Amazon Room. That seemed like a conservative allocation, given that 179 players entered this event last year.

A few moment ago, a tournament supervisor moved the rail one row of tables back to include a new row of five tables inside the tournament ropes. We doubt that all five tables will be filled with late registrants, but clearly at least a few of them will bei nuse.

Scotty Loses One, Baby

Scotty Nguyen, baby, raised from late position, baby, and the small blind called, baby. The flop came {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{7-Spades}, baby, and the small blind bet out, baby. Nguyen raised, baby, and the small blind called, baby. The turn brought the {K-Clubs}, baby, and the small blind check-called a bet from Nguyen, baby.

The river completed the board with the {7-Hearts}, baby, and the small blind bet out, baby. Nguyen called, baby. The small blind tabled the {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, baby, for aces and queens, baby.

"You got it, baby," responded Nguyen as he dropped to 26,000 in chips, baby.
