Farha Gets Chopped Up

Four players saw a flop of {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{8-Hearts} and Sammy Farha was up first. He checked and the next player bet out. Ted Lawson called, Doyle Brunson called and then Farha completed the flop action with a call.

The turn card was the {3-Spades} and made the board eligible for a low. Farha checked again to the unknown player who had bet out on the flop. This player bet again here on the turn and Lawson called. Brunson folded and Farha called.

The river paired the board with the {A-Clubs}. Farha checked, the next player bet out and then Lawson called. Farha also made the call. He mucked his hand when he saw the unknown player table the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a full house, queens full of aces, and Lawson table the {A-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for a low, 8-5-3-2-A. Lawson improved to 32,000 and Farha dropped to 26,000.

A Steel Wheel's a Pretty Good Hand for Benyamine

David Benyamine
David Benyamine

David Benyamine and Jerry Buss were in the blinds for a three-way flop that came {10-Clubs} {a-Spades} {7-Clubs}. They both checked to a third player in the hand, who made a bet. Benyamine called and then Buss called behind.

The turn was a third low card, {3-Spades}. Benyamine led out and only Buss made the call.

The river came down {4-Spades}. Benyamine made one last bet that Buss, the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, called. Benyamine turned over {2-Spades} {4-Hearts} {5-Spades} {q-Hearts} for a steel wheel, a five-high straight flush. Buss showed {a-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {6-Hearts}, having made a seven-high straight and a live five for low. Neither hand was good enough to get any portion of the pot.

Bellande and Matusow's Betting Party

Jean-Robert Bellande has offered up a $2,000 last-longer bet to anyone in the field and immediately got a few takers. First, Scott Clements bet with him, then Mike Matusow took it and finally Allen Kessler. Matusow then took Kessler against Bellande, who had himself, for a price of two-to-one on $2,000. After that, Matusow took Clements against Bellande for even money on $2,000. Matusow also has a bet with Clements for $10,000 according to him in a last longer. These guys just bleed gamble.

Pinoy Pride

Toto Leonidas has turned up in today's field, but so far he hasn't been able to gain much traction. He raised pre-flop in a recent hand and was called by the button, by small blind Matt Glantz and by big blind Freddy Deeb. Glantz made a strong lead-out bet on a flop of {6-Clubs} {6-Spades} {9-Spades} that only Leonidas called. Glantz fired again on the {7-Diamonds} turn. That was enough to chase Leonidas out of the pot.

The G and Zolotow Chop

Chino Rheem raised from middle position and then Tony G reraised from the small blind. Steve Zolotow called from the big blind Rheem also called. The three players took a flop of {J-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Tony G fired out. Zolotow raised, Rheem folded and Tony G called.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and Tony G check-called a bet from Zolotow. The river completed the board with the {2-Spades} and Tony G led out. Zolotow made the call.

Tony G scooped the low with the {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Zolotow scooped the high with the {K-}{8-Clubs}{7-}{2-Hearts}.

Straddles?

Sorel Mizzi asked is his table wanted to do a round of straddles when he got to the under-the-gun position. "You're ready to do anything," responded George Lind.

"The best shot I got is to increase variance," said Mizzi.

Overheard at the Tables

* "Does anyone have a joint?" came a question from a table near the rail. Hands immediately shot up at several nearby tables.

* "I'm such a nit," Tom Dwan tried to convince Barry Greenstein.

* Howard Lederer is trying to fashion a prop bet at his table for the over/under on the number of players (other than the guy who did it today, sorry if that wasn't clear) in the history of major league baseball who have hit a grand slam on their first patch in the big leagues. We're not sure if Lederer is aware that, according to certain MLB stat-tracking services, the answer is 1.

* Mike Sexton and Jean Robert Bellande are loudly continuing their prop-bet discussion. Matt Savage, sitting on JRB's right, has his headphones on and says he can't turn up the music loud enough to drown out the chatter.
