D'Agostino Struggling

John D'Agostino is down to just 4,000 after suffering a handful of setbacks in quick succession. On his last encounter, he faced what was seemingly a torturous decision with {5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} showing against the {8-Clubs}{9-Spades}{K-Clubs}{2-Hearts} of Michael Botwin. After a dwell that would have made Rodin's 'The Thinker' rash, D'Agostino relinquished his hand.

More Chops

As expected, we're witnessing more chops than the Karate Kid trilogy at the moment, the latest players to split one up being Scott Clements and Joseph Santagata. I joined the action on seventh street where Clements had called a check-called before showing:

Clements: {4-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}/{A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Santagata: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}/{2-Hearts}{A-Spades}{7-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}

Clements - 52,000
Santagata - 90,000

Salvadore Saved

John Racener: {5-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} / {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} / (mucked)
Salvadore Mortillaro: {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} / {3-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{5-Hearts} / {q-Diamonds}

We joined the action on fifth street, when a brief raising war between John Racener and Salvadore Mortillaro resulted in Mortillaro all in. Mortillaro revealed rolled-up threes which improved to a full house on seventh street, and with neither player able to make a low he scooped the pot and doubled to 23,000. Racener meanwhile was in absolutely no trouble after that - he was left with a still very healthy 84,000.

We're In For a Long One

Although we are now nearing the money - 76 players remain and 64 get paid - play is now beginning to tighten up significantly, and it could yet be a while before we burst that all-important bubble.

Bearing that in mind, it doesn't seem likely that we will make our final table tonight.

Nelligan Doing Well Again

Christopher Nelligan: (XX) / {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
John Racener: (XX) / {8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{k-Spades}{j-Clubs} - fold

It looked as though Christopher Nelligan had bet all the way and John Racener had called, but come seventh street Nelligan bet out one last time and this time Racener passed.

Nelligan moved up to 48,000. Racener took another small hit and was at 79,000 after that.

Close Call for Studer

Allyn Marshall: {a-}{3-}{10-} / {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{a-Hearts}
Daniel Studer: {2-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds} / {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

We caught up with the hand at showdown. Allyn Marshall, who had only around 2,000 chips behind, announced, "A low and aces," and turned over his cards. Daniel Studer turned his up cards face down but kept his hand on them as he studied Marshall's holding.

"Holy s***, I scoop," said Marshall, but Studer was still eyeing up his cards.

"Hang on, do you have two pair? I have two pair," said Studer and turned over jacks and deuces. "I thought you said aces up."

"You teased me!" said Marshall as they duly chopped it up - Marshall was at 15,000 after that, Studer at 60,000.

Chuckled tablemate Larry Wright as the chopping of the pot was executed, "Where I come from, it's hard to make a low with aces up."
