Johns Crippled

Stud-8

After finding an early double up, Mark Johns is now down to under 20,000 after losing a stud-8 pot against Bill Chen.

The players were already at seventh street when we saw Chen fire a bet and Johns consider his options. He finally announced a call.

Chen: ({3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}) / {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Johns: (X-X-X) / {J-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}

A wheel for Chen was good for the high and the low to scoop the pot and leave Johns hanging on for dear life.

Alexandre Luneau Eliminated in 24th Place ($9,604)

Alexandre Luneau
Alexandre Luneau

Stud

Alexandre Luneau raised on third street and was called by Dan Heimiller.

Luneau had the lead on fourth street and bet again. Heimiller followed along to fifth street where Luneau bet. Heimiller raised and Luneau thought about it for a moment before making the call.

On sixth street, Luneau had the lead again and his bet was called by Heimiller. On seventh street, Luneau bet out, only to be forced with a raise by Heimiller. The call would put Luneau all in and after sitting in the tank for a bit, he made the call for his tournament life.

Luneau: {q-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{j-Hearts} -X- ({9-}{q-}{7-})
Heimiller: {7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Diamonds} -X- ({9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts})

Luneau couldn't beat Heimiller's full house and therefore was eliminated.

Mark Johns Eliminated in 23rd Place ($9,604)

Mark Johns - 23rd place
Mark Johns - 23rd place

Stud-8

The chips were all in on third street for a short-stacked Mark Johns. He was drawing live with {k-Clubs} {10-Spades} {8-Hearts} against Bill Chen's split fours, {7-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for Johns, his board bricked all the way to the river, where Chen drew a third four to make trips. That left Johns drawing dead. He's busto in 23rd place, leaving with $9,604 in prize money.

Battle of the Davids

Stud

After a raise and call on fifth street, David Benyamine and David Singer were off to sixth street. Benyamine had the lead and check-called a bet by Singer.

On seventh street, Benyamine checked once again, only to see Singer bet all in.

Benyamine: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} - X
Singer: {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs} - X

Benyamine promptly folded and Singer increased his chip stack to 140,000.

Phillips Gets Half of Action Pot

Stud-8

Heimiller: X-X / {a-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} / X
Juanda: X-X / {a-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {q-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} / X
Phillips: X-X / {4-Hearts} {q-Clubs} {5-Spades} {4-Spades} / X

Things quickly got out of hand on third street at Dale Phillips' table. Ming Reslock brought it in and was completed by Farzad Bonyadi. Dale Phillips called, only to see Dan Heimiller and John Juanda raise and re-raise behind him. He called both raises before Heimiller raised again. Juanda and Phillips both called.

Juanda had the lead on fourth street and checked it. Phillips also checked, giving Heimiller the opportunity to bet. Juanda raised. Phillips re-raised all in and was called by both players.

Heimiller bet fifth street after Juanda checked, then bet the lead on sixth street after the all-in Phillips made open fours. Juanda called both times. On the river, Heimiller checked, then seemed to know he was beat when Juanda bet. For the size of the pot, perhaps, he couldn't lay it down. Juanda showed three hearts in th hole, {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, for a heart flush to collect the whole side pot and half of the main pot. Phillips got the other half of the main pot with {3-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {7-Clubs} in the hole, an 8-7 low. Heimiller got nothing.

"Ugly, ugly hand," said Heimiller.

Reslock and Wheeler Double Up

Hold'em

On two separate tables, but virtually simultaneously, Ming Reslock and Brent Wheeler doubled up. Reslock was raised on the turn of a {2-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {k-Hearts} board by Phil Ivey. She called all in with unimproved {a-Spades} {q-Spades}. Ivey tabled two red sevens, {7-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}, killing three of Reslock's outs. No matter -- she spiked the {j-Clubs} on the river to make a Broadway straight.

"Oh my god!" she said. "I didn't know I had a Broadway draw."

Reslock doubled to 140,000; Ivey is down to 100,000.

On the feature table, Wheeler fired a bet on the river of a board that showed {8-Spades} {6-Clubs} {k-Hearts} {j-Clubs} {7-Clubs}, leaving himself just 5,000 behind. Jordan Siegel was pained to make the call, but finally did so saying, "Hopefully we're chopping." He was a little steamed to see Wheeler turn over {j-Diamonds} {j-Spades}, having turned a set of jacks.

Benyamine Gets Quartered

Omaha-8

It was four ways to the flop with David Singer raising from under the gun and getting three callers in Daniel Makowsky, David Benyamine in the cutoff, and Mitch Schock in the big blind.

The flop came down {5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}.

Schock and Singer both checked. Makowsky threw in a bet and was called by Benyamine made the call. Schock and Singer folded and we were on to the turn.

When the turn brought the {4-Hearts}, Makowsky bet and Benyamine made the call.

Again, Makowsky bet and Benyamine called on the river, which was the {4-Spades}.

Makowsky showed {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} to take the high with a flush. He and Benyamine, who showed {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, split the low.

Makowsky takes three-quarters of the pot and is up to 420,000. Benyamine took just a quarter of the pot and is sitting on 110,000.
