Phil Ivey Eliminated by Arnaud Mattern

Two-tabling no more
Two-tabling no more

During the short break for the re-draw to two tables in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. event, Phil Ivey slipped over to his $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em table to tend to his dwindling stack. With only 6,200 left, Ivey moved all-in pre-flop, Arnaud Mattern called from the button, and Burt Boutin called from the big blind.

The flop was {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{8-Spades} and Boutin check-folded to Mattern's 10,400 bet.

Ivey {J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}
Mattern {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}

The turn was the {4-Clubs}, the river was the {6-Clubs} and Ivey headed back to the H.O.R.S.E. event. Mattern is up to 86,000.

Negreanu No More

Daniel Negreanu got the last of his chips in the pot on a {J-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop against Vitaly Lunkin. Negreanu turned up {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and was in dire shape against Lunkin's {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}.

The turn was the {9-Clubs}, giving Negreanu a flush draw, but the river blanked out with the {6-Spades} and he hit the rail. Lunkin is up to 215,000 in chips.

Duthie Dominates Lunkin

Mike Matusow opened for 4,100 from under-the-gun, and both john Duthie and Vitaly Lunkin called.

The action checked around on the {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop. The turn was the {J-Clubs} and Lunkin led out for 6,000. Matusow folded and Duthie called. The river was the {10-Clubs} and both Lunkin and Duthie checked.

Lunkin showed {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, but Duthie had him out-kicked with {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} and raked in the pot. He's up to 190,000, Lunkin is on 217,00 and Matusow (who told the table he folded two queens) is down to 86,000.

Hellmuth Out, Almost Not Even Fair

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil "Poker Brat" Hellmuth nursed his short stack through most of the first couple of levels today. But his situation was precarious throughout -- made more so by the fact that he was sharing a table with Dani Stern, Ashton Griffin, and chip leader Tom Marchese who recently moved to Hellmuth's left.

Finally came a hand in which Hellmuth and Griffin exchanged a couple of raises to get the last of Hellmuth's 25,000 in the middle. Hellmuth had {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} and Griffin {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}. The board went {5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{A-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}, and Hellmuth is out. Griffin is now up to 126,000.

"That's almost not even fair," said Hellmuth afterwards as Mike Matusow again wandered over from the next table. "Mike, I had the tens and he had the queens!"

"Tens don't beat queens," Matusow sagely observed.

The Mouth speaks the truth.

83 Remain

The remaining 83 players are back in their seats and the cards are in the air. There will be two more one-hour levels, then there will be a one-hour dinner break.

We're still a good ways from the money as yet, as only the top 27 spots pay.

Well, That's One Way to Tank-Fold

On a board of {K-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}, Pierre Neuville bet 30,000. Sirous Jamshidi raised to 100,000, effectively setting Neuville all-in.

Neuville tanked for a moment, then ordered a coffee from a passing cocktail server. Then he thought some more. About two minutes later, Jamshidi called the clock on Neuville, who continued to tank as the floorperson counted down his last ten seconds to decide. Neuville's hand was declared dead, but both were turned up after the hand.

Neuville {K-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}
Jamshidi {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

Jamshidi is up to 320,000 while Neuville is still waiting on that java.
