The Toilet Flushes This Time

We walked up too late to see when the money went in there, but we do know that Humberto Brenes has just been eliminated by Faraz "The-Toilet" Jaka. Humberto flopped a set of fives with a pocket pair, but Jaka could do better than that. His {2-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} was flopped even better by {K-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}, and Brenes was unable to fill up to stay alive.

With that knockout pot, Jaka has taken a significant chip lead over anyone we've spotted, sitting pretty with 63,000 right now.

A Won-durrrr-ful Life

Ship the triple up to Tom "durrrr" Dwan. Tom Dwan raised to 800 pre-flop and was called by a middle-position player and by the button. Dwan continued on a flop of {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, leading out for 1,175. The next player to act raised to 2,925. The button then flat-called that raise, prompting Dwan to ship in his whole stack, 7,575 total. The middle-position player tanked for about a minute and a half before announcing that he too was all in.

The brought the action back to the button, who called after about a minute. For the main pot, Dwan's set of nines, {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, was ahead of each of his other opponents' top pair. They both had unsuited ace-queen and wound up chopping the side pot after the board bricked out. Dwan collected all of the main pot to triple up to 25,800.

"That was probably a bad call but I figured he had the set, so..." said the button, referring to Dwan.

"You figured *I* had the set?" Dwan asked, a smile at the corner of his lips. He'd have no further chance to use that information, however, as the table broke immediately following the hand.

Kopp Set Up

A flop of {3-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} was out on board when we walked up to Billy Kopp betting out 1,800. He was heads up with Tom Franklin, and Captain Tom raised to 4,000. Kopp had him covered with his all-in reraise, and Franklin instantly called to put himself at risk for about 10,000 total.

Kopp turned up {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} for top pair, and he was in bad shape when Franklin showed that his {3-Hearts} {3-Clubs} had flopped a set. The turn and river came {2-Spades} and {5-Spades}, and that gives the double up to Franklin, moving up to 22,500.

Kopp is all the way down to 4,600.

Dwan Waits for a Better Spot

Tom Dwan had position over both of his callers in a recent hand that he raised pre-flop to 1,050. One of those callers, the big blind, led out for 1,800 on a flop of {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Dwan was the only player to call the bet.

The turn paired the board, {7-Hearts}. Dwan's opponent cautiously checked. Dwan studied him carefully before checking behind.

Another small card, the {4-Clubs}, fell on the river. Dwan's opponent fired a pot-sized bet of 6,5000, drawing an instantaneous fold from durrrr. His chip stack is down to about 14,000.

Carter King Busto

Win your flips andyou could be the next champion. Lose your flips and you could be the next out. It was a case of the latter for Carter King, who put his last 2,000 at risk with {a-}{4-}. An opponent called with pocket deuces, which held up. King's gone.

Snatches of Sleep

We're a month into the 2010 WSOP now, and the late nights seem to be starting to take their toll. Although it's only just shy of 9pm local time, we spotted Dennis Phillips "resting his eyes" in between hands. The good news for Phillips is that because this event started at noon today, the chip bags will be broung out at about 12:45am instead of the later 3am or 330am that is the norm for restarts and the 5pm tournaments.

Set Over Set's Great for Franklin

Tom Franklin opened the pot from late position for 1,050. He was called only by the small blnd, who checked a flop of {8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. Franklin bet 1,500 and was then check-raised to 4,000. He called to what was purpose a dangerous-looking turn card, the {10-Clubs}. The small blind led out for about 8,000, then quickly called after Franklin moved all in for 13,000 total. The small blind showed a set of eights, {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}, but Franklin out-did that with a set of jacks, {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. The river {3-Clubs} didn't improve anyone. As a result, Franklin is up to 28,500.
