A Better Kicker for Kassela

Frank Kassela
Frank Kassela

Carlos Mortensen called a preflop raise to 35,000 from Frank Kassela and the two saw a flop of {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades}. Mortensen checked the flop and Kassela bet 60,000. Mortensen called.

The turn was the {7-Hearts} and both players checked. The river completed the board with the {2-Diamonds} and Mortensen fired 60,000. Kassela called and won the hand with his {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs} versus Mortensen's {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

Mortensen dropped to 600,000 while Kassela moved to 1.1 million.

Trickett Takes Some Off Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu raised to 42,000 from the cutoff and Sam Trickett called from the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}{A-Diamonds} and both players checked. Trickett bet 50,000 when the {2-Spades} hit the turn and Negreanu called. The {3-Diamonds} fell on the river and Trickett came out strong, betting 220,000. Negreanu gave it up and Trickett won the pot.

Negreanu: Down to about 980,000
Trickett: Up to about 1,000,000

Jordanou Doubles Again

Billy Jordanou
Billy Jordanou

Shawn Buchanan raised to 35,000 from under the gun and then Eugene Katchalov three-bet to 90,000 from the next seat. Billy Jordanou shoved all in for 110,000 total before Buchanan folded and Katchalov called.

Jordanou held the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and Katchalov the {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. The board ran through {K-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and Jordanou doubled up much to the liking of his railbirds. He now has 290,000 while Katchalov drooped a little to 885,000.

Action Resumes

Cards are back in the air with 20 players remaining. Only two eliminations to go before we hit the money-- and this is quite a bubble. 19th place leaves with nothing while 18th place earns $58,699.

Mosseri Keeps Climbing

Sam Trickett raised to 42,000 from the small blind and Abe Mosseri defended his big blind.

The flop came down {J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Trickett bet 54,000. Mosseri made the call and the {6-Hearts} landed on the turn. Trickett checked and Mosseri fired 80,000 into the pot. Trickett threw it away and Mosseri won the pot.

Mosseri: Up to about 1,450,000
Trickett: Down to about 740,000

Jason Somerville Doubles Through Dan Kelly

Dan Kelly raised to 38,000 from the cutoff and Jason Somerville moved all in for 191,000 on the button. The blinds folded and action was back on Kelly. He made the call after about 30 seconds and revealed {J-Spades}{9-Spades}. Somerville was ahead with {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

The flop came down {6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, no help to Kelly. The {4-Clubs} hit the turn and provided some hope for a straight on the board, but the river was the {4-Spades} and Somerville safely doubled to 419,000. Kelly took a hit down to about 630,000.

Kenney Takes One Off Kassela

Bryn Kenney raised to 38,000 and then Frank Kassela reraised to 100,00. Kenney called and the flop came down {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

The turn brought the {10-Spades} and both checked again.

The river completed the board with the {3-Hearts}. Kassela check-called a bet of 70,000 from Kenney. Kenney held the {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a pair of tens and Kassela just ace high with the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

"I can't believe you called me with that," said Kassela after the hand.

"Well, you made it a little small," responded Kenney.

Kenney's up to two million and Kassela down to one million.

Shortly after the hand, the tournament staff made Kenney unstack his chips, which were stacks six stacks of twenty each high in a pyramid formation. The staff feared that the chips weren't stable and might fall into the pot, causing a big issue if it were to happen.
