Selbst Uses an Add-on Chip

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

With the board already reading {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Spades}, Vanessa Selbst checked the action to her opponent who bet 400. Selbst then raised to 2,000 and her opponent went into the tank.

Selbst explained to her opponent that he wouldn't bust if he went all in and lost the hand since he still had two add-on chips to use. It seems as though Selbst really wanted him to call and indeed he decided to go all in. Selbst called the remainder of her chips and their hands were revealed.

Selbst: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Spades}

Selbst had a pair of tens along with straight and flush draws, while her opponent held a pair of nines and the nut flush draw. The {5-Spades} on the turn gave both players a flush but Selbst held the lesser of the two. After an inconsequential {7-Hearts} on the river, the pot was shipped to the other player and Selbst used the first of her two add-on chips.

As an interesting side note, seated at Selbst's table is none other than Jamie Pickering whom Selbst beat heads up in the $1500 Pot-Limit Omaha event in 2008.

Glantz Gone

On a flop of {9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} we found David Chiu tossing out a bet of 225 with both Matt Glantz and a third player making the call to see the {Q-Diamonds} land on the turn.

Chiu took the passive route by checking as Glantz found himself all in for his last 575. The unknown player made the call, as did Chiu before the {2-Diamonds} completed the board on the river.

Chiu fired out 1,300 to push the third player out of the hand as he tabled his {K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for a flush as Glantz mucked and headed to the rail.

Sarwer Stack Soaring Up

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Jeffrey Sarwer isn't wasting any time in accumulating chips. With the board already reading {8-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}, Sarwer bet 850, the player in the cutoff called and the player on the button folded. After the {6-Hearts} came on the river Sarwer check-called a bet of 2,500 from his opponent.

Sarwer showed the {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} for three's full of fives which was good enough to win the pot and boost his stack to 21,000.

Matusow Arrives, Takes Down Pot

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

We have just spotted Mike Matusow in the field, and on the first hand we witnessed him play, he limp-potted from under the gun and found two callers.

On a {3-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop, Matusow moved all in for his last 1,850 after his opponents in the blinds checked. The small blind quickly folded, but the big blind took slightly longer before mucking his hand.

Bronshtein Flops the Nuts

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Four players including Yuval Bronshtein all put in 150 chips preflop and saw a flop of {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Everyone checked and the {4-Hearts} came on the turn. Bronshtein checked, another player bet 400 and recieved calls from Bronshtein and one other player. after the {9-Spades} came on the river Bronshtein checked again and the other two players did as well.

We're guessing Bronshtein was hoping to put in a check raise as he held the {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts} for quad jacks. The other players all mucked and Bronshtein took the pot upping his stack to 6,500.

Matusow Slips

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Mike Matusow has just seen his first add-on chip felted after getting his all in on a {7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{K-Hearts} board.

Matusow: {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
Opponent: {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs}

With Matusow drawing dead to a gutshot, the river would fall the {A-Diamonds} to see him left with just 350 and his two 3,000-chip add-on chips.

No Win for Nguyen

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Men Nguyen
Men Nguyen

With the board reading {q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Spades}, Men "The Master" Nguyen and another player got all their chips in the middle and their hands were revealed.

Nguyen: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

Nguyen's top two pair and straight draw was behind to the other player's straight. The {2-Diamonds} on the turn and {5-Spades} on the river were of no help to Nguyen and he was forced to use the first of his two add-on chips.
