In the announcements prior to the start of the tournament, Ty Stewart was on the mic and thanked the players for coming out and participating. He went on to mention the number 4,500 and that this is how big they expect the field to get. Last year, Marcel Vonk defeated a field of 3,844 players to take home the gold in the last of the $1,000 events, but that number looks to be shattered today.
Nearly 2,000 player on Day 1a and the later the starting day, the larger the field in nearly all tournaments. With those extra few hundred bodies in the event, you can expect the first-place prize to get well over the $600,000 mark and even approach the $700,000 range.
