Baby You Can Drive My Karr

With the board reading {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{J-Clubs}, a player in early position bet out 525. Mclean Karr raised to 1,050 from middle position and his opponent made the call. The {7-Spades} fell on the turn and the early position player checked. Karr bet out 2,125 and his opponent once again made the call.

The {Q-Hearts} came on the river and both players checked. The early position player tabled {j-Hearts}{j-Spades} and Karr tossed his cards into the muck, taking a significant hit from his starting stack.

Candio Can't Call The River

Filippo Candio lost a small one here on his quest back to the November Nine.

A player in late position raised it up to 575 and got called from the cutoff, Candio on the button, and the big blind.

The flop came down {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} The big blind checked, the late position player bet out 1,050, the cutoff folded, Candio called, and the big blind folded.

The turn was the {k-Spades} the late position player bet 1,250 and Candio insta-called. The river came the {3-Hearts} and the late position player bet out 2,500. Candio was not so quick to act this time however and after a bit of tanking, he threw away the hand.

Last year's fourth place finisher is still very healthy with 29,000, but he's going to need some of that famous run-good if he wants to make another deep run this year.

Hollink Kicking It

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

On a {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop, Rob Hollink called a bet of 425 from the player in the cutoff. On the {2-Spades} turn, Hollink was the one to bet with his opponent calling. Both players checked the {10-Diamonds} river and Hollink revealed {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for top pair that just had the cutoff’s {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs} nicked by two kicker notches.

Joining the Tan Players

Eli Elezra has just taken his seat in the tan section. This section is the first that is being broken to fill empty seats in other sections, so as a result he likely won't be at his current table for long.

Small Hit to Hulyk

With a flop of {A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, a player bet out 500 and Darya Hulyk made it 1,500 to go. Action folded back around to the original bettor and he made the call. The {Q-Spades} came on the turn and the action went check-check. The {8-Diamonds} rivered and once again they both checked. Hulyk's opponent tabled {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and Hulyk sent her cards sailing to the muck.

As Long As He Doesn't Start Biting

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

We were passing through the Orange section when across the way came an oddly-familiar sound, something we hadn't heard for about a year or so here in the Amazon Room.

It was barking.

A walk over to the Purple section showed that, indeed, Ted Bort has returned to the World Series Main Event.
And he's barking again. "Remember him?" said players to one another at tables as we passed by, referring to Bort's barking from the WSOP a year ago. "How could you forget?" came the reply.

By the time we arrived at Bort's table, he was in conversation with a tournament director regarding the matter of excessive celebration.

"I wasn't celebrating," said Bort. "It wasn't that bad of a bark," said a tablemate.

We'll see -- and hear -- how it goes for Bort and his neighbors as the afternoon and evening wears on.

Boyd Tank Folds

With the board reading {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{K-Spades} and over 8,000 in the pot, the player in the big blind pushed out a bet of 5,250 chips. Dutch Boyd went into the tank for over two minutes pondering this hand. Eventually he quietly mucked his cards, taking the small hit to his stack.

Hennigan Slipping

A middle position player raised it up to 250, John Hennigan called from the cutoff, the player on the button re-raised to 1,800 and both players called to see the {2-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop. All three players checked and they saw the {3-Diamonds} turn.

The middle position player checked, Hennigan bet 2,000, and both players called. The river came {2-Diamonds} and all three players checked again. The middle position player showed {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} and the other two mucked.

Hennigan falls to 21,000 which is still two thirds of his starting stack, but any lost ground at this point is especially hard to make up in an event of this magnitude and size.

Selbst Squeezes Out a Victory

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A player in early position opened for 375 and was called by the player to his immediate left and Vanessa Selbst from middle position. Everyone else folded.

The flop came {4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts} and the original raiser c-bet for 625. The opponent to his left raised to 1,700 and Vanessa Selbst had a long think before four-betting to 5,100. The original raiser quickly folded, but the player to his left fell hard into the tank. He counted his chips a couple times, but eventually mucked his hand. Selbst mucked without showing and is back up to 29,000.
