Battle of the Short Stacks

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

After a lot commotion coming from table 386 we went to see what was going on. When we got there we found out that 3 players were all in and were called by a fourth person. From what we were told, two players from early position moved all in, Johnny Martinez in middle position called their all ins, and a fourth player in the big blind called blindly and was all in himself. Cards were flipped over, and the excitement started.

Early Position Player 1: {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Early Position Player 2: {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Johnny Martinez: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}
Big Bling: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}

The player in the big blind was pretty short and claimed he didn't look at his hand when he called his own all in, nonetheless though he was ahead going to the flop. The dealer spread out a three card flop of {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Johnny Martinez was now ahead with his pair of aces, and the other three players were in dire need of some help.

A {10-Spades} rolled off the deck for the turn, maintaining Martinez's lead and with the {4-Hearts} on the river Martinez's pair of aces were best and he was awarded the 7,000 chip pot.

The Matt Savage Rollercoaster

Matt Savage
Matt Savage

We managed to catch up to the action to find Matt Savage move all in for 700 from under the gun. The table folded around to the big blind who completed the call and put Savage's tournament life at risk. Cards were flipped over and it looked as if Savage was in good shape.

Savage: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Opponent: {J-Spades}{5-Clubs}

A Savage favorable flop appeared and read {Q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts}, unfortunately for Savage there were still two more cards to come. With the {7-Clubs} and the {6-Clubs} peeling off the deck for the turn and river Savage was eliminated as his opponent hit a straight on the river.

Tian Takes a Big Hit

Haiyan Tian
Haiyan Tian

When we got to the table, Haiyan Tian was heads up in a big pot, with the board reading {a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Tian's opponent bet 3,000, and Tian quickly moved all in. Her opponent called even quicker, and the two players flipped up their cards.

Tian: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Tian had top pair, but she was well behind her opponent, who had flopped two pair. Tian would need a jack or a queen to win, but he river brought the {9-Spades}. Tian shipped almost 10,000 over to her opponent, leaving her with 9,850.

Off to the Races

In a recent hand, one of the many growing chip stacks in the room, Jacob Wesloski made it 700 to see a flop. Action folded around to the player in the small blind who moved all in for 1,950. Wesloski made the call and both players flipped their cards.

Wesloski: {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Small Blind: {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

With a {9-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{A-Hearts} flop Wesloski took a strong lead going to the turn. With a {10-Diamonds} and a {k-Spades} falling on the turn river respectively Wesloski held the best of it and was awarded the pot.

Quibell Finds A Double Up

Crystal Quibell
Crystal Quibell

When we came to the table, Crystal Quibell had shoved her last 3,050 in the middle, after the player in the hijack raised. He tanked for about a minute, before flinging in the call. Quibell quickly tabled {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}, and saw that she was in a dream situation, as her opponent had {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. Of course nothing comes easy in poker, as the flop came down {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{q-Spades}, giving her opponent a straight draw. However, she survived the sweat, as the board completed {6-Spades}{q-Hearts}. Quibell collected the chips, and upped her stack to 8,500.

Stewart Seeking Chips

Ty Stewart
Ty Stewart

We managed to get to Ty Stewart's table just in time to see him move all in on a {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop. His opponent made the call and we got to see both players flip their cards. Stewart tabled {Q-}{Q-} for a pair of queens, while his opponent showed {10-}{10-} for a weaker pair of tens.

Stewart looked to be in good shape so long as he could avoid an eight or a ten. With a {K-Hearts} on the turn and a {4-Clubs} on the river Stewart held the best hand and received the pot.

Acoba Eliminated

Marie-Lizette Acoba
Marie-Lizette Acoba

We didn't catch the hand that eliminated her, but we saw Marie-Lizette Acoba grabbing her things and heading to the rail. We caught up with her briefly, and she simply said "two crazy hands did me in." We did catch one of those hands that knocked her down quite a bit.

We caught up to this hand in the middle of the action with about 2,000 in the pot; Acoba was in the small blind, and Ray Pulford was in middle position.

With the board reading {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{10-Clubs} Acoba check raised Pulford's 800 chip bet to 2,200. Pulford called, and the turn came a {9-Clubs}.

Acoba checked, and Pulford shoved all in. Acoba had to call off her remaining stack to see the last card, and tanked a bit before finally folding.

“Show a bluff, it's good for the game,” a table mate asked.

Pulford obliged and showed the {Q-Spades}.

“I had an open ender and an Ace,” Acoba said. “I really thought I liked that turn.”

Pulford is above 20,000 now. Acoba dropped to under 6,000 with that hand, and was eliminated shortly after
